Clients also may be experiencing new difficulty with performing activities of daily living, withdrawn or isolating behavior, or in need of medical detoxification from alcohol or drugs. Within Kansas, The Generations Unit is one of two substance abuse treatment facilities that provides hospital-based inpatient detoxification.

The facility is designed to feel like a home to help clients resolve their mental health concerns and build social skills. Families are welcomed to participate in treatment with their loved ones. Treatment methods include individualized and group counseling, psychosocial sessions with a licensed master’s-level social worker, and animal-assisted therapy. It features private rooms with individual bathrooms, a private dining room for the wing, and a common activity room and living area.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback to date. On secondary review sites, Newton Medical Center as a whole received mixed coverage to date: 2.9 out of five stars based on 69 reviews on Google; and four stars based on 186 reviews on the facility’s Facebook page, which the organization can manage. [1] [2] These ratings applied to all of the services the hospital provided rather than to The Generations Unit specifically.

Reviewers on the positive end praised the kind, courteous service and competent, knowledgeable, professional staff, expressed in a representative review by G.S. on Google: “Great staff and a very nice place to be if you have to be in the hospital.” Alum D.P. on Google, who went to the Emergency Room when “experiencing severely painful withdrawal of benzodiazepines,” rated the facility a perfect five stars and posted: “Great job that night everyone. Thank you.”

Conversely, negative reviewers criticized long wait times, rude and incompetent staff, lack of interest in patients, poor communication. Numerous individuals also posted complaints about the billing department, such as G.M. on Facebook, who wrote: “Warning. Read your bill. I am being charged $100 for a simple 5 minute procedure on top of an office visit charge. This place is everything that’s wrong with Medical Care cost in this country.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, the sole loved one polled by Rehabs.com reported a positive experience overall. Although offering a two out of five-star rating for overall treatment effectiveness, the reviewer cited a strength of the facility was that it “Helped me accept me for me” and wanted Rehabs.com to know that the client “has been clean 9 years Now, adding, :me and my family truly grateful for the rehab in newton.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

To date, on secondary site Glassdoor, one staff member submitted a negative review of working in The Generations Department at Newton Medical Center: two out of five stars. [3] Although this anonymous former staffer “loved the people” they worked with, they reported: “When patient count is high, sometimes they would under staff.” As a result, this reviewer would not recommend the facility, mainly because the rate of pay did not compensate adequately for “the physical and mental stress that you go through.”

FINANCING

Payment for treatment on The Generations Unit is processed through Newton Medical Center; the exact cost of treatment is not published. Newton Medical Center accepts insurance, as well as Medicaid and Medicare, but does not provide a list of authorized plans on its website. Financial assistance is available for clients who qualify; a health care assistance application must be submitted. In Kansas, the facility is among the 28.6 percent of facilities to accept Medicare.

[1] GoogleReviews

[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/nmckansas/reviews/?ref=page_internal

[3] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Employee-Review-Newton-Medical-Center-Kansas-RVW9633847.htm
