<p><strong>ABOUT BERT NASH COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER IN LAWRENCE, KS</strong></p> <p>Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, located in Lawrence, Kan., offers <strong>outpatient treatment to children and adults struggling with mental health and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">dual diagnoses</a></strong>. The facility was founded in 1950 and serves individuals throughout Douglas County. The Bert Nash Center is a non-profit community organization. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The facility’s treatment program uses a number of research-based therapy methods including <strong>Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)</strong> and <strong>Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)</strong>. Clients may either call the facility directly to schedule an initial visit to Bert Nash, or may visit the facility during walk-in hours. Walk in hours are available weekly for adults, and five days a week for children and their parents. Clients must be residents of Douglas County in order to receive services at Bert Nash. For those experiencing an emergency, the facility operates a 24-hour number. </p> <p>Several forms of outpatient therapy are available at Bert Nash, including individual and group therapy, an intensive outpatient program, and a <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">dual diagnosis</a> program called Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT). Throughout treatment, clients receive <strong>counseling specific to their individual challenges</strong>. Therapists at Bert Nash are able to treat a range of anxiety disorders including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. In the IDDT program, clients receive <strong>both individual and group therapy as well as specialized case management services</strong>. </p> <p>Bert Nash also has a range of children and family services, including <strong>individual, group and family therapy, parent support groups, in-home therapy, support and skill groups, psychological evaluations</strong>. Both adults and children may receive medication from Bert Nash if deemed necessary. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The treatment team at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center includes “highly trained mental health professionals.” One parent of a client who was polled by Rehabs.com gave the facility four out of five stars for staff support, and four stars for leadership. She also stated that Bert Nash employs “Professional and caring staff.” </p> <p><strong>REVIEWS</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing there has been one friend or family member of a client polled by Rehabs.com. The parent of a client said she would recommend Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center to others seeking treatment.</p> <p>The loved one gave the facility three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, four stars for the quality of counseling, and four stars for staff support. The loved one was not involved in helping the client pay for treatment, but said she visited the client and stayed in regular contact with the client during treatment. She said she did not know whether the facility appeared to match up with how it was described on the website or other marketing materials. </p> <p>The loved one added that she felt the client benefitted from the care they received at the facility, and that she would recommend re-entry to the facility for her child if necessary. She added commentary stating, “It was/is primarily an outpatient facility.”</p> <p>On the facility’s Google page, there is an <strong>overall rating of three out of five stars based on five total reviews</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Reviews are mixed. Alum S.P., who gave one star, was unhappy with the facility’s policy regarding prescriptions. He wrote, “Now, Bert Nash has a new policy that a patient MUST see a therapist if they want medications. In other words, no freedom to chose a Therapist outside of Bert Nash...it's a money making business. I was very unsatisfied with the 4 Therapists I saw at Bert Nash!” S.J., another alum, did not agree with that viewpoint. He gave five stars and wrote, “Most of the staff here are amazing, just advocate for yourself.”</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>There is currently no information provided regarding the cost of treatment at Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, but the facility states that fees are “comparable to or lower than the cost of similar services in private agencies.” The facility <strong>accepts insurance including Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance</strong>.
