Editorial Review

ABOUT CLUB SODA

Located in downtown Terre Haute, Ind., Club Soda describes itself on Facebook “providing an environment conducive to recovery and supportive of 12 step programs."[1] The facility does not currently operate its own website, but an article published in the Tribune-Star in 2010 a sober-living facility with close links to the local 12-step community. When that article was published in 2010, treatment was for men only with a women’s facility in the works. Reviews left on Facebook corroborated this claim at the time of this writing.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Rehabs.com reviews depicted Club Soda as a traditional program, one that is strongly based on the 12-Steps - though reviewers also noted that treatment is not particularly rooted in faith.

For the most part, reviewers gave the program low to mediocre average ratings for its holistic and exercise options, indicating that programming is somewhat bare bones. Two of the three Rehabs.com survey respondents to date, however, deemed the counseling options worthy of four or five stars. Reviews also indicated that treatment for co-occurring disorders leaves room for improvement.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Rehabs.com reviews and local media indicate that at least some staff members are in recovery themselves. The three individuals surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility two, three, and five stars respectively for its staff’s level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Tribune-Star article from 2010 notes that the facility opened with 18 beds, though there appeared to be plans to expand. One Rehabs.com reviewer noted that transportation is provided.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Both former clients polled by Rehabs.com as of this writing indicated that they would strongly recommend treatment at Club Soda, and both gave the facility five out of five stars for its overall treatment effectiveness, its cleanliness, and the strength of its 12-step program. Family participation, meals and nutrition, and counseling options also received four or five stars from both reviewers.

The areas with the lowest ratings were the facility’s holistic options and treatment for co-occurring disorders. In their written commentary, alumni celebrated individual staff members, though one reviewer, Thomas, noted that treatment might be a little one-size-fits-all, listing “personal care” as a facility weakness.

Third-party reviews sites yielded mostly positive reviews. On Facebook, Club Soda has an average rating of 3.9 stars out of five based on 21 reports. Though the facility also received a handful of one- and two-star ratings, these reviewers did not detail their experiences. Others spoke warmly of their fellow residents: “Great place, good friends that are there when you need them,” Curtis wrote. [2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single review submitted to Rehabs.com by a loved one was lukewarm. Though they indicated that they’d recommend the facility and gave it five stars for its family program, they gave two stars for the overall effectiveness of its treatment and just one star for its counseling options. In their commentary, they suggested that treatment might be lax, noting that it would only work if the client was really invested, adding: “Too loose in letting patients come & go.”

FINANCING

The Tribune-Star article referenced above notes that residents are required to pay a weekly rent, though specific prices are not available. The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com as of this writing all gave the facility four- or five-star ratings for the affordability of treatment.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/Club-Soda-213068355397211/about/?ref=page_internal
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/Club-Soda-213068355397211/reviews/
