Editorial Review

ABOUT INNERCEPT

Located in the town of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Innercept is a residential program for adolescents and young adults with mental and behavioral health disorders. While Innercept does not offer detox services or treatment for chemical dependency, it does provide intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient programming for specialized disorders including gaming and technology addictions using a holistic, personalized approach. Programming accommodates a variety of other co-occurring conditions including mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process begins with an interview process. Clients are referred for treatment by caretakers or other facilities as all of the clients are minors. After an initial call or email, clients participate in an interview with the facility’s staff and the client’s legal guardians.

Treatment consists of talk therapy combined with experiential therapies and educational courses. Programming is divided into age groups to accommodate the specific needs of different age clients. The adolescent program treats teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17, while 18 to 24-year-olds are placed in the young adult program or a “guided” young adult program that offers treatment in a more intimate setting. A minimum commitment of six months is required from clients.

Each age group has separate intensive and standard programs that clients can participate in. Intensive treatment engages clients in individual therapy three times per week, weekly family therapy, and group psychotherapy sessions twice a day. Clients also attend various psychoeducational groups that center around life skills, expressive arts, goal setting, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Academic programs make up a part of the curriculum, and health and fitness programming teaches stress reduction, nutrition, and relaxation techniques. Medication management is also available.

Educational services are provided so that clients can continue their education. GED services can be provided, and clients are expected to participate in academic programs as needed to advance their education.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Innercept’s treatment team consists of nurses, master’s and Ph.D. level licensed therapists, psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, mentors, and certified teachers, according to the center’s website.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Living arrangements are family-style; residents share a stylishly decorated home equipped with modern appliances. The facility's website indicates game rooms, art and activity rooms, and outdoor space are available to all residents.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one alum who was polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a mixed review.

The anonymous former client gave the center four out of five stars for accommodations and amenities, but noted a number of specific critiques. “They need to improve their counseling, holistic approaches and family participation,” they wrote.

The alum gave one out of five stars to the facility for its holistic offerings, meals and nutrition, connectivity, affordability, family participation, and counseling options.

On Google, Innercept, LLC earned an average of 2.1 out of five stars from 39 reviews to date.[1] Multiple alumni noted the center was untrustworthy, and the staff was degrading. “This program was one of the worst things to ever happen to me,” alum Kirra wrote in a representative review. “My life was made so much worse by cruel incompetent mental health ‘professionals.’” However, a couple alumni praised the center. “I loved this program,” alum Lauren wrote. “It did me well.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

On Yelp, the more than dozen reviews posted by loved ones at the time of this writing were mostly negative.” Loved one Cosmo wrote about how Innercept “patiently untangled their 17-year old’s issues.” Additionally, S.T. referred to Innercept as the “most positive, life changing experience.”

However, Yelp reviewers Jeff and Kristin, however, were both furious after their children lost unhealthy amounts of weight while in treatment. “He lost so much weight while he was there I barely recognized him once I went and saw him myself,” Kristin wrote.

Other parents had alarmingly negative stories about the facility. “Being at Innercept is a horrible experience I would not wish on my worst enemy,” Rachel wrote in a representative review. “Your child will spend 90% of their time locked up in a house with staff that have limited or no training,” Jeff wrote.

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided on the facility's website regarding its costs.

[1] https://goo.gl/kKs5wo
[2] https://www.yelp.com/notrecommendedreviews/innercept-coeur-d-alene
