ABOUT DEKALB TRANSITIONAL RESIDENTIAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAM (RSAT) - FOX RECOVERY CENTER

Located in Decatur, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta, the Fox Recovery Center is part of the DeKalb Transitional Residential Substance Abuse Program (RSAT) and is one of Georgia’s 26 short-term, non-hospital residential treatment programs. It provides short-term, residential treatment for male veterans seeking treatment for chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. The facility does not provide detox services on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To identify specific issues that may contribute to addictive behavior and any psychiatric concerns, clients first participate in an initial substance abuse and psychiatric assessment. Most facilities in the U.S. begin their programs with a similar method of assessment to guide program development. Once completed, clients can enroll in the treatment program.

The Fox Center provides an abstinence-based, recovery-oriented treatment program that blends evidence-based treatment methods and educational classes with 12-step immersion. The 12-Step program is used in nearly 73 percent of U.S. treatment facilities. The average length of the residential program is 28 days.

During residential treatment, clients participate in individual therapy, daily group counseling, and family counseling sessions. Family counseling is offered at 66 percent of treatment facilities across the country. Typically, counseling sessions are designed to help clients identify social, family, or psychological factors that may contribute to addictive behavior. In addition, clients may also attend educational classes on the disease of addiction, which may include informative sessions on relapse prevention techniques and coping skills training.

The Fox Center's programming is largely founded on the principles and practices of the 12-step model of recovery. During residential treatment, clients attend daily 12-Step meetings within the community, study fellowship literature, and perform associated step-work. To ensure accountability, clients are subject to weekly toxicology testing.

If indicated, the Fox Center offers specialized groups weekly to treat clients with co-occurring disorders called Double Trouble Recovery. Clients with co-occurring mental health disorders may also receive ongoing medication management. In addition, the center provides HIV testing and counseling, which is available in just under 50 percent of treatment facilities in the state.

Before being discharged from the Fox Center, veterans coordinate with their primary counselor to create an comprehensive aftercare plan. Aftercare planning may include referrals to less-intensive levels of treatment, sober housing facilities, and other community-based services.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Fox Center employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of a psychiatrist, nurses, and a group of licensed clinicians, which may include professional counselors experienced in the fields of chemical dependency and mental health. It is a part of the 29 percent of U.S. facilities that are CARF accredited.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The facility provides clients with a home-like environment for treatment. Though information is limited concerning the amenities and accommodations of the facility, the sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave a four out of five star rating for the facility's overall cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, one alum has provided feedback to Rehabs.com about the Fox Center. The alum gave a mostly positive review, giving four out of five stars for its connectivity, family participation, and whether they’d recommend the facility to others. They gave only two stars for its exercise and leisure opportunities, and three stars for its holistic offerings and counseling options.

FINANCING

The Fox Center is a part of the 35 percent of U.S. facilities that accept Medicare. Public insurance programs are also accepted. The sole alum offered a four out of five star rating regarding the residential program's affordability.

CONCLUSION

As a leading organization in the recovery community, RSAT has made a significant difference in the outcomes of clients. According to its website, it has successfully graduated more than 1,000 clients and continues to take in new clients, successfully serving an underserved part of the community and reducing the number of homeless in the area.
