ABOUT POSITIVE DIRECTIONS

Located in Westport, Conn., Positive Directions is a nonprofit psychiatric clinic that provides outpatient counseling to adults and adolescents struggling with substance use disorder and co-occurring disorders. The facility is also among the 38.6 percent of treatment facilities in Connecticut to offer counseling for gambling addiction.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment to determine what type of care is most appropriate. The outpatient facility offers one-on-one counseling, group therapy, and family counseling, as well as marriage and couples counseling.

In addition to substance use disorder and problem gambling, Positive Directions provides treatment for a range of mental health problems, including anxiety, depression, disordered eating, grief and loss issues, personality disorders, and work and career problems.

The facility also focuses on prevention and runs community outreach services designed to educate youth and families about addiction and mental health disorders. In 2017, less than half (48.6 percent) of Connecticut treatment facilities provided outreach to individuals in the community who may need treatment.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

In addition to a medical director, the treatment team includes licensed clinical social workers and licensed alcohol and drug counselors. The one loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave Positive Directions four out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility’s alumni, Positive Directions earned two five-star ratings on its Facebook page[1], however no commentary was left.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, an anonymous female under the age of 18, gave Positive Directions positive feedback. She awarded the facility four out of five stars for its cleanliness, its connectivity, its family participation, its administrative and discharge procedures, its treatment of co-occurring disorders, and its counseling options. β€œIt had a supportive staff and great counseling,” she wrote.

FINANCING

According to the facility's website, Positive Directions accepts a number of private insurance plans, including Aetna, Oxford, Cigna, and United Healthcare. The facility also takes Medicare, which is accepted by a little more than half (54.8 percent) of all substance abuse treatment facilities in Connecticut. Sliding scale fees are available to clients who qualify.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/PositiveDirections/reviews/
