<p><strong>ABOUT VENTURA/TRI-COUNTIES TEEN CHALLENGE- VENTURA, CA</strong></p> <p>Ventura/Tri-Counties Teen Challenge, located in Ventura, Calif., is one of California’s <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CA17.pdf" target="_blank">699 (53.3 percent) private, nonprofit treatment facilities</a>. It offers <strong>residential treatment to women ages 18 and older seeking treatment for drug, alcohol, and other addictions</strong>. Ventura Teen Challenge serves residents of the Tri-Counties region including Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura. The location was first established in 1972 in a two-story home on Ventura Ave; in 1999, the facility moved into a larger <strong>143-acre property</strong> in the Ventura foothills. Detox is not available.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Teen Challenge was established in 1958 using a multistep model that includes evangelism, apprenticeship, and ministry. The facility’s treatment program follows a <strong>Biblically based, holistic model</strong> of treatment. In order to be admitted, clients must contact the center to schedule an appointment, complete an application, and meet with the facility in order to be introduced to the personnel as well as understand the expectations of becoming a resident in the program. <strong>Residents remain in the treatment program for a full 12 months</strong> making it one of California’s <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CA17.pdf" target="_blank">440 (33.6 percent) long-term treatment facilities</a>. </p> <p>The first three-month induction phase of the program is held in the Los Angeles or Kern County facilities; women are then transferred to the Ventura Women’s Home for the remainder of their nine months of treatment. Throughout treatment, clients receive “discipleship” from others who have also overcome addiction before them. <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/CA17.pdf" target="_blank">919 (70.1 percent of California’s facilities</a> use mentors in their treatment process. </p> <p>The mentors help women to make necessary adjustments in their life in order to cope more effectively with their problems. Advisors also <strong>help clients grow spiritually and emotionally</strong>. Clients participate in chapel services, Bible studies, and general work programs each day. For those in need, clients may also work on earning their <strong>high school diploma or GED certificate</strong> while in the program. </p> <p>Finally, participants of Ventura Teen Challenge <strong>visit schools in the nearby area to educate children on the danger of substance abuse</strong>. Clients also participate in choir outings and work projects in the community as they progress through the treatment program. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The treatment team includes <strong>mentors</strong> who have overcome addiction. The facility director is also a graduate of Teen Challenge and has worked with the Teen Challenge ministry in the late 1980s.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The facility offers <strong>59-beds for female clients</strong> in a home-like setting within the Ventura foothills. Ventura Teen Challenge describes its location as a safe and peaceful place for women to recover. Family communications are limited to mostly immediate family. Clients are required to dress modestly in <strong>gender-appropriate</strong> clothing, including dresses and skirts to church services. Clients must wear a bra at all times and bring with them a robe and house shoes. Tobacco products are prohibited. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong> </p> <p>At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com has not received any feedback from alumni of the Teen Challenge. Both loved ones gave four out of five stars or higher for its cleanliness, affordability, and the experience of staff. For its counseling options, they gave two and four stars respectively. The first loved one felt that a strength of the facility was, “Strong community involvement Focuses not on sobriety solely but on spiritual health It is free.” The second loved one felt that the facility could do a better job balancing client's schedules between work, study time, and outreach.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p><strong>The Teen Challenge of Southern California provides services at no cost</strong> to participants.
