ABOUT CITYTEAM HOUSE OF GRACE

Surrounded by the rolling hills of California’s Bay Area, Cityteam House of Grace opened in 1994 as a free Christian program that offers long-term residential treatment for women and their children that suffer from substance abuse, abuse, and homelessness. The program is run by a non-denominational Christian organization that helps over 500,000 people in the U.S. and abroad. Although the organization runs several operations in San Jose, the addresses of each home is not published to “protect the privacy of the women in the program.” Detox services are not provided on site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process at Cityteam House of Grace begins with a comprehensive assessment by a medical and psychological team to determine if applicants are appropriate for the program. The program is faith-based focusing on Christian doctrine and practices. The facility provides one of California’s 440 long-term residential treatment options.

Cityteam House of Grace is also one of the 715 facilities in California that provide programs designed specifically for women. Clients that are admitted to the residential program participate in a series of educational, religious, and sober living skills training courses. The program uses a community-based model combined with the 12-Steps principles that focuses on personal responsibility, shared goals, and mentorship. The program typically lasts between 10 and 12 months.

The 12-Steps program is a preferred option among residential and outpatient treatment facilities. In California, it is used in 77.3 percent of treatment facilities. Many facilities like it for its short-term and long-term treatment options.

Cityteam House of Grace is one of the 170 facilities (13 percent of facilities) in California that offer childcare for the children of clients. They also have access to family services such as GED classes and family therapy services. Job training, which is offered in less than half of California’s treatment facilities, is available through Cityteam. The facility also provides educational courses on parenting, spiritual growth, life skills, relapse prevention, and anger management. Residents must obtain employment once they have completed various educational milestones.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Cityteam House of Grace employs clergy and certified counseling staff members, as well as partners in various community groups and organizations to provide ancillary services. Volunteers are also involved in treatment processes as well as helping to coordinate special functions as needed.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Cityteam House of Grace’s facility is gender-specific with separate housing for men and women. Children stay with a parent during treatment. The facility has space for children including housing and daycare services. Cityteam also partners with other organizations to provide educational resources and family services. The facility has classrooms, counseling spaces, and meeting spaces to facilitate treatment plans. Rehabs.com surveys suggest that alumni found the accommodations comfortable and the meals satisfying by providing four out of five stars or higher for these categories.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, four alumni provided feedback about Cityteam House of Grace. Three reviews were very positive, one review was mixed.

One anonymous alum commented that “people here are very kind and helpful,” and mentioned “meals” as a key strength to supplement her four-star reviews for family participation, affordability, meals and nutrition, counseling, and cleanliness. Another alum, Liz, wrote: “Helped me get clean. Great place!” Even though she indicated that the facility may not have many alternative therapies, she gave group and individual counseling five out of five stars. Additionally, an alum named Cindy shared with Rehabs.com that Cityteam saved her life. “That is were I found GOD,” she wrote.

Alum D.V. was less impressed, citing poor experiences with staff. The organization subsists on donations made by individuals, foundations, corporations, churches, and other organizations. Therefore, clients will not be turned away based on their ability to pay.

CONCLUSION

Cityteam is focused on addressing homelessness in the community. Through its Facebook page, the organizations look for new ways to provide information about relevant issues facing the homeless community. It also works to bring in donations and volunteer efforts to expand the facility’s operations.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/cityteam/reviews/
