ABOUT POVERELLO HOUSE- MEN’S RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION PROGRAM

The faith-based Poverello House originally started out providing food and respite to homeless men and women. Since the 1990s, its current location in downtown Fresno, Calif. hosts a long-term residential program for homeless men struggling with substance use disorder. It's one of 686 substance abuse treatment centers in California (52.3 percent of all substance abuse treatment centers in the state) to provide treatment tailored to men.

However, this program is not designed to treat men with co-occurring mental health disorders or those taking psychotropic medications.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Individuals entering the program must schedule an appointment to complete an intake interview. The residential rehab is open to men with no income, but all residents must be willing and able to work. The program is long-term and clients must commit to a minimum stay of six months to a year. Poverello House is among the 33.6 percent of treatment facilities in California to offer non-hospital residential programming that lasts longer than 30 days.

Treatment at Poverello House includes individual and group counseling, substance abuse education, recreational activities, and transitional planning services, as well as work therapy and vocational referrals. In 2017, a little less than half (46.1 percent) of California treatment facilities provided employment counseling or training for its clients.

Graduates are given access to an aftercare program, which includes 26 treatment sessions, two eight-hour volunteer days per month, three 12-step support groups a week, and participation in random drug tests.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Although there is no information available regarding staff credentials, the two individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave a four- and perfect five-star rating for the staff's level of experience and training.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings.
