<p><strong>ABOUT THE GUIDANCE CENTER</strong></p> <p>Established in 1969, The Guidance Center of Flagstaff, Ariz. offers a full range of behavioral health programs and services for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Treatment for <strong>substance abuse and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</strong></a> is available to adults and includes both <strong>residential and outpatient programs</strong>, as well as a <strong>Substance Abuse Stabilization & Transition Service</strong>, which gives high-risk substance abusers a place to rest, get self-care and education, and consider committing to sobriety.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>All clients of the Guidance Center are assessed upon admission. Those requiring immediate psychiatric care may be referred to the <strong>16-bed Psychiatric Acute Care Unit</strong>, which provides evaluations, medical stabilization, and emergency psychiatric care, including involuntary hospitalization.</p> <p>The <strong>residential substance abuse treatment program</strong> offers clients a safe and secure environment for recovery and includes <strong>individual counseling, group therapy, family therapy, and addiction education classes</strong>. If necessary, the facility also offers medication management and psychiatric evaluations for individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders, and special groups on anger management, women’s issues, and trauma are available. </p> <p>Substance abuse treatment is based on the <a href="http://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/principles-drug-addiction-treatment-research-based-guide-third-edition/evidence-based-approaches-to-drug-addiction-treatment/behavioral-3" target="_blank"><strong>Matrix Model</strong></a>, which also incorporates the 12-step model of recovery into programming. In addition to traditional approaches, the Guidance Center also facilitates community outings and <strong>expressive arts therapy</strong>. Clients' length of stay varies and, according to the website, is "based on clinical need." </p> <p>Upon residential treatment completion, clinicians may encourage clients to transition into the center's outpatient program. The <strong>outpatient program also follows the Matrix Model</strong> approach to addiction treatment and includes both individual and group counseling, as well as educational classes.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The Guidance Center’s highly credentialed staff includes its MS- and MA-certified CEO, a medical director who is a board-certified psychiatrist, and a Ph.D.-certified chief clinical officer. There also are licensed and master's level addiction and mental health counselors, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and registered nurses.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The Guidance Center is located in an impressive complex surrounded by trees and shrubbery. Clients in the residential substance abuse treatment program go on regular outings, including 12-step meetings, hikes, the park, and holiday themed events. Electronic devices, such as cell phones, mp3 players, iPods, and tablets, are not allowed. Visitors are welcome during visiting hours. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The three alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date offered largely favorable feedback for the center, particularly the facility's staff and the effectiveness of counseling. Two of the three alumni polled gave perfect five out of five-star ratings for the staff's level of experience and training. Michelle, who gave a three-star rating for the staff's level of experience and training, described the group and individual therapy as “intense,” though suggested the facility needed "more family one on one time. </p> <p>Offering perfect five-star ratings for the facility's ability to treat co-occurring disorders and for the likelihood they'd recommend the facility to others, one anonymous alum wrote: "They are the real deal." Alum P.M. gave perfect five-star ratings for the facility's individual counseling and the respect shown to clientele. </p> <p>On Google reviews, 18 individuals gave the Guidance Center an average rating of <strong>three out of five stars</strong> to date. [1] Opinions were relatively balanced on the high and low ends. Five-star reviewer Kris wrote: “I had, and hopefully will continue to have, amazing and healing experiences here. The staff is wonderful and genuinely cares for their clients.” Negative feedback from reviewers tended to report a lack of professionalism. </p> <p>The facility fared better on its Facebook page, which the center can manage, with an <strong>average of 4.1 out of five stars</strong> based on 16 reviews to date. [2] Of the total, 13 reviews, or 72 percent, were five and four stars. Positive reviewers praised the staff’s treatment and passion, while negative reviewers complained about lack of communication, organization, and cleanliness.</p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>A staff member surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive feedback, including four-star ratings for the facility’s treatment effectiveness, family participation, cleanliness, and counseling options.
