<p><strong>ABOUT DECATUR MORGAN HOSPITAL WEST CAMPUS</strong></p> <p>Located in the community of Decatur in northern Alabama, the Decatur Morgan Hospital West Campus provides <strong>acute inpatient crisis management and mental health treatment</strong> to those suffering from emotional and mental disorders. The facility, which has separate units for adolescents (ages 12 to 18), adults (ages 18 and up), and the elderly (over 60), addresses a wide range of mental health issues including depression, severe anxiety, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger, aggression, and suicidal ideations. It is one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/AL17.pdf" target="_blank">7 hospital inpatient centers in Alabama</a>.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Upon admission, patients undergo a <strong>biopsychosocial assessment</strong> to determine a proper level of care and length of stay to successfully meet clinical goals.</p> <p>Focusing on acute crisis management, the facility utilizes a variety of <strong>evidence-based practices</strong> to stabilize symptoms, help patients understand their situations, and teach real-world techniques to manage symptoms. Treatment methods include <strong>group psychotherapy</strong>, <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family therapy</a>, medication management, social skills training, nutritional therapy and <strong>recreational therapy</strong>.</p> <p>Along with traditional techniques, the <strong>adolescent program includes a daily creative writing workshop</strong>. Nationally recognized, the facility’s 360° West creative writing program offers patients the opportunity for introspection, healthy expression, and the development of positive coping skills through writing.</p> <p>Although the facility does not offer outpatient programs, treatment plans do include <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare planning</a> and referrals to follow-up care.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The multidisciplinary treatment team includes <strong>medical staff</strong>, psychiatrists, and psychologists, as well as social workers, nurses, and <strong>mental health counselors</strong>. Teachers and activities therapists help with the adolescent inpatient program. Physical and <strong>occupational therapists</strong> work with the geriatric program.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Decatur Morgan Hospital’s West Campus offers <strong>64 beds</strong> for its psychiatric facility. It has four different units: one for teens, two for adults, and one for senior citizens. Clients should expect a highly <strong>clinical setting</strong>, as this facility is part of a hospital. Clients are supervised 24/7 by nursing staff.</p> <p>The two individuals polled to date on Decatur West’s accommodations and amenities provided mixed feedback: one out of five stars and five out of five stars.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date, a male over the age of 60, gave Decatur Morgan Hospital West Campus mostly positive feedback. He awarded the facility four out of five stars for its cleanliness, its counseling options, its treatment of <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>, and its staff's level of training and experience. "All in all the treatment, the staff and the facility were good," he wrote.</p> <p>The facility did not fare as well on Google, where it earned an average rating of <strong>2.5 out of five stars</strong> based on 16 Google reviews<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small>. The majority of reviewers who left comments (five out of six) complained about issues including rude staff, a lack of therapy, and medication mismanagement.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>Of the two loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date, one provided negative feedback and the other was lukewarm, unsure of whether she would recommend treatment at Decatur West to others. She did say, however, that treatment of her loved ones “seemed to help.” This loved one gave the facility three out of five stars in every category, including treatment effectiveness, affordability, family participation, holistic treatment offerings, and facility cleanliness. </p> <p>The other anonymous family member told Rehabs.com that their loved one was “traumatized” by the treatment experience, giving mere one-star ratings for all 15 metrics evaluated, including treatment effectiveness, affordability, family participation, holistic offerings, and facility cleanliness. </p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to the hospital’s website, Medicare, Medicaid, and most group health insurance programs are accepted.
