Editorial Review

ABOUT TEEN CHALLENGE INTERNATIONAL WISCONSIN – MEN’S CENTER OF HOPE CAMPUS

Established in 1958, Teen Challenge International Wisconsin is a faith-based residential recovery program for adolescents and young adults with drug and alcohol addictions. The Men’s “Center of Hope” campus is host to a treatment program in which young men partake in a regimen of Christ-based mentoring, classroom-style education, and vocational training. Detox is not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Teen Challenge aims to cultivate a “culture of responsibility” rooted in a belief in God and values found in the Bible. According to its website, most Teen Challenge programs take place in two phases, the Induction phase and the Training phase.

In the first three to five months, the Induction phase focuses on everyday Christian living and education. Within small group settings, men are introduced to more than a dozen practical Bible topics and themes such as “Successful Christian Living,” “Grown Through Failure,” and “Personal Relationships.” Teachers also work with young men on a one-on-one basis to address individual issues and questions.

In the Training phase, normally six to 10 months, young men continue learning in a more in-depth manner, and take on vocational and life skills training such as vehicle repair, cooking, cleaning, yard maintenance, office work, and more. Literacy, G.E.D, and other education classes also provide men with the opportunity to graduate or simply catch up on their formal education. With daily chores assigned, graduates of this “Christian boot camp experience” walk away with a fundamental training in caring for themselves and providing for others.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Teen Challenge is staffed by a non-clinical team of programming, events, and education coordinators.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

To supplement fully packed days of intensive classroom learning and “work detail,” young men are regularly provided with free time, movie nights, and a weekly soccer game. Men can also join the choir, which meets weekly to practice prior to performing at annual charity banquets and other events.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

To date, Rehabs.com has received one review from a former client. In addition to giving the facility five out of five stars for the staff’s level of experience and training and for the faith-based programming, L.N.E. found favor with the “caring” and “loving” staff. “I disconnected with the world for restoration and The Lord found me where I was at !!! I'm a miracle! 15 months sober ... I stay plugged in and I'm finally living the life we are all meant to live !” L.N.E wrote.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

At the time of this writing, three loved ones shared mostly positive experiences and outcomes with Rehabs.com. While Barbara noted the facility’s lack of “professional counselors,” another loved one applauded the “great,” “structured,” faith-based programs as well as the opportunities for participants to pay for their own tuitions. The last reviewer succinctly told Rehabs.com: “Teen Challenge works!”

FINANCING

According to its website, Teen Challenge “receives no government funding and operates solely by donations.”
