ABOUT BEACON

Located on a suburban street in Fond du Lac, eastern Wisconsin, Beacon is one of Wisconsin’s 117 non-profit facilities. It offers a sober living environment for women and mothers recovering from substance use disorder. Women may also bring their children to stay with them during treatment. Treatment is available to residents of Fond du Lac, Dodge, Washington, Winnebago, Waukesha, Kewaunee, Clark, Jefferson, and Calumet Counties, as well as two Native American tribes. Detox is not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The treatment process at Beacon focuses on the treatment needs of women and is one of the 111 facilities in Wisconsin that provide gender-specific treatment for women. The average length of stay is 90 to 120 days making Beacon one of Wisconsin’s 39 long-term, non-hospital residential programs.

The treatment process focuses on creating a healthy lifestyle through community help and practice. During the first 60 days of treatment, clients focus on rebuilding healthy habits. In the last 30 to 60 days, the focus shifts to helping clients transition out of the program with life skills. By providing clients with educational opportunities, the facility can help them establish a healthy lifestyle outside of the facility.

The 12-step model is used in 69.6 percent of Wisconsin’s treatment facilities, and forms the majority of treatment at Beacon. Beyond 12-step programming, treatment focuses on the whole woman in a holistic care method. This is achieved through individual and group counseling, family education and interactive groups for families, parenting classes, life skills training relapse prevention planning, and referrals to community services as needed.

The facility also provides therapy and community groups dedicated to topics such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, eating disorders, spirituality, and cognitive intervention programming. These groups expose clients to possible concerns as well as the methods of addressing them, which increases the chances that they will be less likely to relapse.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The center employs two full-time counselors as well as other trained staff. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center five out of five stars for its staff’s level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Treatment is offered from a four-level Victorian home that offers a total of 12 beds. Clients live in a home-style environment with a full kitchen. Clients stay in single-occupancy rooms and share communal amenities like a dining room. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center five out of five stars for its accommodations, meals, and cleanliness.

Daycare is provided for children on weekdays, and all residents must complete chores throughout treatment, including keeping their own bedroom clean. There is also a weekly trip to the YMCA to help residents achieve physical fitness.

Clients may not consume caffeinated beverages on- or off-site during their stays.
