<p><strong>ABOUT FMRS HEALTH SYSTEMS, INC.</strong></p> <p>Serving a four-county area in West Virginia, FMRS Health Systems, Inc. (originally called FMRS Mental Health Council) is a nonprofit health services agency dedicated to treating individuals and families with mental health and substance abuse disorders. </p> <p>Founded in 1969, the center offers <strong>gender-specific treatment programs for children, adults, and pregnant and post-partum women</strong>, as well as short-term detoxification services. Within the state, FMRS Health Systems is one of seven substance abuse treatment facilities that provides <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WV17,pdf" target="_blank">residential, non-hospital detox services</a>.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>The <strong>Crisis Stabilization Program offers opioid, alcohol, and benzodiazepine detoxification for adults</strong>. Intended to stabilize clients and prevent future hospitalization, this short-term program of <strong>five to seven days</strong> maintains an “informal, comfortable, home-like environment” for both referrals and the self-admitted, though the latter must complete a behavioral health assessment prior to entry.</p> <p>The organization’s three <strong>highly-structured residential treatment programs</strong> are designed for individuals lacking a strong support system and those having trouble with finances, work, family, or health. </p> <p>Lasting for <strong>12 weeks, the LEARN Program</strong> helps men build substance-free lifestyles through daily individual and group counseling. In W.V., the center is one of 39 substance abuse treatment facilities with <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WV17.pdf" target="_blank">special programs for adult men</a>.</p> <p>The <strong>MOTHER Program is a 90-day residential treatment track for women</strong> – some of whom may be accompanied by their children, while others seek to regain custody of their children. The curriculum includes <strong>individual and group</strong> therapy, recovery-based activities including <strong>AA/NA meetings</strong>, frequent drug screens, and sessions on trauma and domestic violence issues.</p> <p>The facility also offers 90 days of residential treatment through its federally-funded <strong>Turning Pointe for pregnant and post-partum women</strong>. In this <strong>smoke-free 16-bed facility</strong>, women have access to specialized services for their newborns, as well as their other children, while pregnant women may receive <strong>medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with Subutex</strong> to minimize the impact on the fetus. In W.V., the center is one of 21 substance abuse treatment facilities with <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WV17.pdf" target="_blank">special programs for pregnant or postpartum women</a>.</p> <p>The center also offers an <strong>intensive outpatient (IOP)</strong> option as an alternative to residential treatment. It is available to those living nearby in a supportive environment, but who require more than individual therapy and support groups. This program also offers access to medical and psychiatric services.</p> <p>For individuals with a steady supportive environment in place who find their habits interfere with daily life, the organization holds <strong>weekly outpatient groups</strong> on-site at its Raleigh office. Meeting on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the <strong>Early Recovery Group</strong> offers AA/NA and other support group meetings. For those with a <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">dual diagnosis</a>, there’s also an open-ended <strong>Co-occurring Group</strong> that focuses on effective ways of dealing with anxiety and everyday stress. </p> <p>Two outpatient programs for children and families utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT). <strong>Resiliency for Appalachia - Youth Overcoming Trauma (RAPP)</strong> provides evidence-based treatment modalities and informs participants about trauma. A <strong>school-based education program for youth</strong> operates during the regular school year.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Detox services are overseen by a psychiatrist or physician assistant. Although few details are available about staff credentials, activities on the employment tab on the facility's website include searches to hire master’s level and licensed therapists, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and other qualified professionals.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The center currently does not provide information regarding living arrangements and related offerings of its three residential treatment programs. In their Rehabs.com surveys, however, three individuals were split on the matter: two gave at least four-star ratings for their respective facility’s accommodations and meals, whereas a third reviewer allotted two out of five stars at most. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, the alum polled by Rehabs.com submitted highly favorable feedback about FMRS Health Systems. This former anonymous client, who wrote that the experience “exceeded my expectations and was very helpful,” awarded positive ratings to most evaluated survey metrics.</p> <p>The alum offered perfect five stars for conflict resolution, consistency, lead counselor, overall group counseling, and staff support; four out of five stars for level of overall individual counseling, staff respect, safety, staff experience and training, and visitor program; and three stars for facility cleanliness and upkeep. </p> <p>Although this reviewer rated holistic offerings two stars, which suggested room for improvement, they wanted Rehabs.com to know: “This treatment saved my life and taught me so much that I was able to completely change my life. I learned everything I needed to be able to change my life.” </p> <p>On secondary sites, the center received <strong>conflicting coverage</strong> to date. On Google, the organization received an average rating of <strong>2.7 out of five stars</strong> from 14 individuals to date. While some individuals appreciate programming effectiveness and staff, others reported rundown conditions and perceived questionable practices. "This program is one of the worse and most unprofessional rehabs I have ever witnessed!" Brian, a negative representative reviewer, wrote. However, alum Edward wrote: "Kind, compassionate, and helpful."</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>Two family members polled by Rehabs.com to date had highly positive impressions of the facility. Both reported their loved ones achieved desired results through treatment. Together, they awarded the top five stars and four out of five stars for most of the 15 survey metrics, such as affordability, connectivity/visitor policy, counseling options, family participation, and likelihood to recommend. </p> <p>In fact, L.C., assigned five stars to all metrics with the exception of holistic offerings. L.C. considered this experience “A true success story” with counseling, administration, and accountability as facility-wide strengths, while the other loved one wrote: “My family member received the treatment that they needed.
