Editorial Review

ABOUT THERAPEUTIC HEALTH SERVICES (THS) - RAINIER BRANCH

Based in Seattle, Wash., Therapeutic Health Services (THS) offers outpatient programs (OP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for adult and adolescent clients seeking recovery from issues of mental health and substance use in the Seattle area. The Rainier Branch is one of 12 branches and locations associated with THS. Dual diagnosis treatment services are also available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients undergo initial assessments and evaluations for both mental health and substance use concerns to determine an appropriate plan of treatment. Treatment is primarily evidence-based. As indicated, the facility offers medication-based treatment (MAT), which includes Suboxone and methadone treatment, to help minimize the discomfort of opioid withdrawal and curb cravings. According to a 2016 SAMHSA survey, the Rainier Branch is one of 78 (18.%) of Washington facilities to offer Suboxone.

Regardless of the outpatient program, clients are required to attend at least two sober support meetings per week. Treatment includes group therapy and individual counseling, and the branch offers specialized services for pregnant and parenting clients. THS also strongly encourages clients to supplement their treatment with peer-help involvement, such as participation in 12-Step, SMART Recovery, or Celebrate Recovery. Medication management is also available to individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders.

The youth program offers similar services, alongside case management, clinical interviews upon admission, family counseling, and referrals to other community services. Mental health counseling addresses issues such as difficulties related to sexual orientation, school problems, foster care and adoption, and gang involvement, among more traditional areas of concern.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

At the Rainier Branch, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is provided by qualified physicians. The facility's staff also includes behavioral health technicians, clinical supervisors, certified chemical dependency counselors, and nurses.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com to date provided mixed perspectives, including split opinions on the overall effectiveness of treatment and the availability of counseling options to fit clients' preferences. The more critical alum represented the facility's treatment approach as too relaxed with a lack of accountability, particularly in drug testing.

Both reviewers agreed that the facility was clean and well-maintained and that admissions and discharge procedures were positive, rating the facility four and five out of five stars for those aspects. The alumni also both rated the level of staff training and experience four stars. "Facility offered a good program and was affordable," one alum wrote.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The one loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date rated THS Rainier a perfect five stars for its treatment effectiveness, counseling options, and treatment of co-occurring mental health and addiction disorders. However, they rated its family involvement, cleanliness, and affordability only one star. The anonymous loved one noted that staff was communicative, "extremely patient and knowledgable," but also reported too few counselors.

WHAT STAFF SAY

On Glassdoor, 13 current and former employees rated THS in general an average 2.9 out of five stars to date.[1] Employees gave mixed feedback on the quality of interaction between staff and management**, and a few felt clients weren't engaged enough to recover. "Stop enabling your clients to continue with negative self destructive behaviors," one critical employee wrote.

FINANCING

THIS accepts government and private insurance plans. Uninsured clients may receive income-sensitive sliding scale fees for all programs and services, and THS works with government agencies to provide subsidized care.

[1] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Therapeutic-Health-Services-Reviews-E694502.htm
