APA is one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WA17.pdf" target="_blank">35.6 percent</a> of facilities in Washington State that doesn't use the 12-Steps, billing its treatment as an alternative to the popular fellowship.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>While a minority of clients are referred through the court system, APA's website emphasizes that most clients come voluntarily, and that this voluntarily nature of treatment is part of what sets the program apart. APA also stresses its rigorous screening process, designed to select only individuals who are serious about addiction and committed to learning and recovering. <strong>The typical client is a mature professional,</strong> though younger clients are also welcome.</p> <p>For both men and women, there are <strong>intensive outpatient programs (IOPs)</strong> lasting eight weeks or longer, and <strong>weekly continuing care meetings,</strong> which might last up to six months or longer. The length of a client's treatment depends on their needs, and will be determined through consultation with their counselor. This is one of the many ways in which APA aims to provide client-tailored programs.</p> <p>The program uses evidence-based methods such as <strong>motivation enhancement (ME), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT,</strong> and tenets from developmental psychology. In order to provide holistic healing, clients also learn <strong>mindfulness-based relapse prevention techniques</strong> and participate in a wellness program that promotes nutritional and physical healing.</p> <p>While APA <strong>doesn't use the 12-Steps</strong> in its programming, there's no prohibition on clients attending 12-step meetings outside of treatment, if they wish. In Washington, the facility is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WA17.pdf" target="_blank">36.1 percent of facilities</a> to provide specialized programming for men and <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/WA17.pdf" target="_blank">42.2 of facilities</a> to offer gender-specific programming for women.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Founded and directed by a long-time advocate of the benefits of gender-specific treatment, the outpatient center employs a treatment team <strong>staffed largely by master's-level counselors</strong>. Two staff members hold advanced degrees from the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology. However, the single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center just one out of five stars for its level of staff support.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date would not recommend the program. S.G., the spouse of a former client, expressed disappointment in the outcome of treatment and gave just one star in most of the evaluated treatment metrics, including the program's effectiveness, its opportunities for family involvement, and — in contrast with the facility's presented values — its counseling options and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/forums/discussion/7265/what-is-holistic-treatment-and-how-can-it-help" target="_blank">holistic offerings</a>. "The treatment dealt with the symptoms, but not the actual cause of the substance abuse," they wrote.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Individual counseling starts at <strong>$130 per session.</strong> APA will file insurance claims on an out-of-network basis, but is not in-network with any insurers.
