<p><strong>ABOUT NEW RIVER VALLEY COMMUNITY SERVICES – BRIDGE PROGRAM</strong></p> <p>Located in Blacksburg, Va., the New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS) Bridge Program provides <strong>substance abuse treatment in a drug court setting</strong>. According to the facility's website, this NRVCS offering is “a jail diversion program designed to <strong>divert individuals with mental illness away from the criminal justice system</strong> and into community-based treatment and services.” </p> <p>As such, within the state, the organization is among <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/VA17.pdf" target="_blank">24 percent</a> of substance abuse treatment facilities with special programs for criminal justice clients and also one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/VA17.pdf" target="_blank">229 substance abuse treatment facilities</a> in all of Virginia. Additionally, clients must live and face charges in Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Radford City counties.</p> <p>The Bridge Program is a <strong>transitional track</strong>, intended to help clients between release from jail and finding services to meet their ongoing needs. Clients must commit to a <strong>treatment time period of at least six months</strong>. Treatment will not continue past 12 months, even if services still are needed. Monthly progress reports and results of <strong>regular drug testing</strong> are sent to the courts, Department of Social Services, and probation officers.</p> <p>Clients may receive evidence-based treatment such as <strong>individual and group counseling</strong>, substance abuse treatment, psychiatric services, medication assistance, help in <strong>obtaining community resources</strong>, and limited transportation services.</p> <p>The Bridge Program offers several group treatment options, such as specialized groups on <a href="http://www.rehabs.com/pro-talk-articles/seeking-safety-an-evidence-based-model-to-address-trauma-and-addiction-together/" target="_blank"><strong>Seeking Safety</strong></a>, Beyond the Bars (BTB), anger management, and others that address relationships and shoplifting. Case managers can provide weekly coping skills groups and help securing ongoing access to community resources upon release.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The NRVCS Bridge Program, licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, is among <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/VA17.pdf" target="_blank">67.7 percent</a> of substance abuse treatment facilities in Virginia licensed by a state mental health department. The one individual polled by Rehabs.com to date rated the facility's accommodations and amenities and meals and nutrition the top five stars, but gave one star for its cleanliness deficient.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date submitted a mainly positive review of the Bridge Program, as reflected in the perfect five stars awarded to counseling options, likelihood to recommend, and worth the cost. K.M. offered four stars for treatment of co-occurring disorders; and three stars for connectivity/visitor policy and holistic offerings. However, this former client assigned one star for family participation. The most enjoyable part of working for this company was the continuing education that they provided for each staff member,” one reviewer wrote. Conversely, negative posts referenced <strong>large and stressful caseloads</strong>, heavy documentation requirements, challenging clients, poor work-life balance, and corrupt management. </p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Many clients are admitted into the Bridge Program as a condition of a bond, judge’s sentence, or condition of probation.
