Services & Treatment

Editorial Review

ABOUT GIRLS RECOVERY LODGE

Located on a tree-lined street four miles west of the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., Girls Recovery Lodge (formerly known as Vanguard Services Unlimited - Deep Run Lodge) offers residential treatment for adolescent girls aged 13 to 18 who are struggling with substance abuse. Its operated by nonprofit Vanguard Services Unlimited, which operates several treatment facilities for adults and adolescents in Virginia.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The center offers same-day admissions. New residents are usually referred by their parents, school, doctor, or therapist.

The length of stay varies according to each girl’s needs, but is typically around three months. The program is based on the 12-steps, supplemented by individual and group counseling that focuses on behavior management, encouraging the resident teens to take personal responsibility for their behavior. The program also includes training on anger management, personal hygiene, goal setting, and other life skills, plus nutrition, diet, and exercise programs. Residents must comply with random drug tests.

For families, there are parent education seminars and a family program that involves weekly meetings, and families are encouraged to attend programming at least once during their daughter’s stay. Private counseling is also available for families, as needed. Each parent or guardian will also receive weekly updates on their daughter’s progress, from her primary counselor.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

When the center was still under Vanguard, two reviewers rated three out of five stars on CiteHealth. Wrote one of the family members, "Great experience, very helpful for 18-year-old daughter."[1]

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Vanguard Services Unlimited provides training for its staff, to keep them up-to-date with useful protocols. There is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff, however, the single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date — a former employee — gave the center five out of five stars for the experience levels of its mental health and addictions staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The center accommodates only eight girls at a time.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The single staffer polled by Rehabs.com to date, Michael, gave mostly positive feedback, indicating that they would recommend the facility, and giving it four or five stars in most of the evaluated treatment metrics, including its honesty, its willingness to put clients’ interests first, and the overall quality of its care. In his comments, Michael implied a hiccup in the company’s organization, which briefly interrupted otherwise excellent services: “The treatment for our clients was outstanding until the split in staff interfered with staff morale, etc. However, that is over and the treatment remained excellent until I lost contact with Vanguard Services.”

At the time of this writing, secondary sites yielded no further review coverage for this facility.

FINANCING

The center accepts Medicaid, self-pay, and most major insurers. Funding is relating to the Children’s Services Act and other government initiatives is also accepted. The single staffer polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the center four out of five stars for the fairness of its price point.

[1] http://citehealth.com/rehab-centers/virginia/cities/arlington/vanguard-services-unlimited
