ABOUT AVALON HILLS

Located in Logan, Utah, Avalon Hills is nestled in the Rocky Mountains. The center provides residential services to female teens and adults with eating disorders. Avalon Hills’ approach is client based, and creates an individualized plan for each person.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to Avalon Hills’ website, there are six stages of the treatment process at Avalon Hills: intake and treatment planning, awareness and contemplation, exploration and preparation, action, transition management, and aftercare.

The intake process is three steps, which includes a detailed assessment, orientation to the program, and treatment planning. Each client is paired up with a primary therapist to help with each stage.

During the awareness and contemplation stage, the clients start to identify key factors that led them to an eating disorder. That includes awareness of the psychological, biological, social, cultural, interpersonal, and spiritual factors.

In the third stage, exploration and preparation, clients are expected to take ownership in their choices, and are ready to explore the consequences of their behavior.

The action stage is when clients have decided that change is necessary, and are willing to experiment with new ways of thinking, behaving, relating, and coping.

The center’s website indicates that transition management is the last stage of treatment. During this stage, clients focus on preparing to leave, and the challenges that await them.

During aftercare, the center follows-up with clients after discharge to ensure continuity of recovery.

The center utilizes a combination of evidence-based treatment, forms of therapy, and the latest in applied brain science during each stage. Physicians are open to all forms of experimental care.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the center’s website, the treatment team includes multiple therapists, nurses, dietitians, neurofeedback technicians, a yoga instructor, and case managers.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The center’s website indicates the treatment homes are located in the Rocky Mountains of “Cache Valley." The alum gave the center one out of five stars when asked if they would recommend it. The alum also wrote: “Admissions will tell you anything to get you to come. what they tell you will often be far from the truth, once you arrive. you have to sign an arbitration agreement upon entering the facility. there is little to no privacy.”

However, the 19 people who left reviews on the center’s Facebook page, which it manages, gave more positive reviews with 4.8 out of five stars at the time of this writing.[1] A couple alumni mentioned the center saved their lives.
