ABOUT THE TREEHOUSE

Located on 40 scenic acres in Scurry, Texas, roughly 30 miles east of Dallas, is The Treehouse, an evidence-based holistic therapy program for adult men and women looking to heal from drug and alcohol addictions and emotional and psychological trauma. Opportunity for improved mindfulness and stress management is provided through regularly scheduled sessions of meditation, yoga, and Tai Chi. When appropriate, families are invited for family education and counseling.

The Treehouse experience follows a schedule that incorporates both structure and balance. In a typical day, clients rise to a 7:30 a.m. breakfast before 90 minutes of meditation and DBT-based journaling time. After a short snack break, they’ll continue with skills and educational groups and then break for lunch. The afternoon sees an hour worth off ropes course, a meditation or devotional group, a community meeting or educational group, and an outdoor activity. Dinner is set for 5:00 p.m., after which time clients have time to exercise, journal, meditate, or simply relax. The day officially ends at 10:00 p.m.

As they approach the end of their program, all clients plan for relapse prevention and work with their counselors in setting up an inclusive aftercare plan. The center’s website also notes that it will be running its own equine therapy program as of Spring 2018.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The multidisciplinary treatment team at Treehouse is led by a physician who is board-certified in addiction medicine and includes licensed clinical therapists and addictions counselors, nurse practitioners, art therapists, and yoga and meditation instructors.

According to the center’s website, clients benefit from a staff-to-client ratio of 1:1.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The natural environment that surrounds the Treehouse is meant to promote reflection, resiliency, adaptability, and other key areas of growth.
