<p><strong>ABOUT MAGNOLIA BEHAVIORAL HOSPITAL OF EAST TEXAS</strong></p> <p>Located in the community of Longview, in eastern Texas, the 76-bed Magnolia Behavioral Hospital of Longview is comprised of two different <strong>inpatient and outpatient program tracks for adults:</strong> The Oak Program and The Bridges Program. The Oak provides psychiatric treatment services for individuals struggling with a primary mental health issue, while the Bridges Program offers treatment for adults struggling with substance abuse issues and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring disorders</a>, making it one of just <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TX16.pdf" target="_blank">187 (38.3 percent)</a> facilities in the state with this specifically-tailored programming.</p> <p>If necessary, the Bridges Program also provides <strong>on-site detoxification</strong> services, available at only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TX16.pdf" target="_blank">44 (9 percent)</a> of Texas substance abuse treatment centers.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Upon admission, clients undergo a comprehensive psychiatric, and if applicable, substance abuse assessment to determine an individualized plan of care. The Bridges Program utilizes <strong>evidence-based treatment methods</strong> including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and the <strong>12-Steps</strong> to help clients acquire and sustain recovery. If necessary, clinicians may utilize <strong>medication-assisted therapy (MAT), such as Suboxone</strong>, to minimize the discomfort of withdrawal. Ongoing medication management is also an important component to address symptoms associated with mental health concerns.</p> <p>The Bridges and Oaks Programs’ treatment approaches consist of a rigorous, structured schedule of <strong>group psychotherapy, individual therapy, process groups, and illness education</strong>. In addition, clients receive educational classes on nutrition and spirituality, and individuals in the Bridges program also attend workshops on relapse prevention and 12-step groups in the evenings. Along with core programming, clients enjoy a range of recreational activities, including volleyball, basketball, and therapeutic hikes.</p> <p>To support loved ones during the inpatient program, The Bridges and Oak Programs facilitate <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family counseling sessions</a></strong> and hold <strong>educational groups for loves ones</strong>. In addition, <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/report_3059/ShortReport-3059.pdf" target="_blank">98 percent of all Texas substance abuse treatment facilities</a> have continuing education requirements for staff.</p> <p>The three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date expressed varying levels of satisfaction with the staff's level of experience and training, producing a two-star, a four-star, and a five-star rating for this category.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS AND AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The <strong>76-bed facility</strong> offers a therapeutic, comfortable environment conducive to recovery, while the median number of individuals in a non-hospital residential treatment facility as of 2016 was <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">18 clients</a>. According to its website, the facility’s campus boasts “serene, well-groomed courtyards, and plenty of room to relax.” Clients enjoy <strong>semi-private bedrooms</strong>, home-cooked meals, and access to a full-sized gymnasium for recreational activities. The facility also offers fitness programs for clients to participate and meal planning to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences.</p> <p>All three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave <strong>four out of five stars for facility cleanliness</strong>. Two of these reviewers also gave four stars for accommodations & amenities, and one gave a lower, three-star rating for this category.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave <strong>mostly negative ratings</strong>. When asked if they would recommend the facility to others, both offered only two out of five stars, indicating that they <strong>would not recommend the facility</strong>. Both alumni also gave just two stars to overall treatment effectiveness, and one rated holistic offerings two stars, while the other rated this category only one star. She also offered a rating of four stars for the level of family participation and overall treatment effectiveness. “Superior staff....transportation is provided if necessary (huge plus)." The areas that she was less pleased with were the facility's exercise & leisure activities, its holistic offerings, and its use of 12-step programming, all of which she gave just two out of five stars.
