Editorial Review

ABOUT CHEYENNE CENTER, INC.

Located off the Eastex Freeway in northern Houston, Cheyenne Center, Inc. is a nonprofit rehab for adults struggling with substance use disorder. Since opening its doors in 2010, Cheyenne Center has provided care for men and women through various residential and outpatient programs. Detox services are not available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Programming is grounded in the belief that chemical dependency is a progressive disease that is not curable, but treatable. There is a 28-day, intensive residential program for men that features one-on-one counseling, group therapy, and mandatory, bi-weekly family participation. Men are further supported through regular exercise, meditation, and healthy eating habits. Upon graduating, men are eligible for an additional 60 days of extended treatment.

Outpatient programming, available for both men and women, takes place in a separate, nearby facility. Designed for those seeking treatment on a part-time basis or as a step-down option from residential care, outpatient groups meet two to four times a week for a total of 18 weeks. Beyond counseling services, outpatient treatment balances 12-step meetings with educational groups and stress reduction activities. And continuing care services take a “one day at a time” approach, helping clients transition smoothly back into their respective communities.

Cheyenne Center also provides clients with access to criminal justice programs, aftercare options, and a special dual diagnosis treatment track.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

This facility’s multidisciplinary staff includes licensed chemical dependency counselors, recovery coaches, and substance abuse technicians.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The residential facility for men consists of two buildings: the north building houses 120 clients, and the east building houses administrative offices and common areas.

During designated times, clients may take advantage of the centrally-located swimming pool in the courtyard. Other amenities include a large commercial kitchen, a dining room, a laundry room, and a day room with a TV, weights, and board games. Cheyenne Center is a non-smoking facility and cell phones are not permitted.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The sole alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Cheyenne Center a mostly negative review, awarding the facility three out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, and just one star for its counseling options, its exercise and leisure activities, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its staff's level of training and experience.

On Google, the facility earned an average rating of 2.8 out of five stars based on 29 reviews.[1] Negative feedback focused mostly on rude staff, while positive reviews praised the facility for its effective treatment. Three respondents even credited the facility with saving their lives.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date gave Cheyenne Center mostly positive reviews. Although two reviewers brought attention to cleanliness issues, one told Rehabs.com that “it was worth it, he is better now and that makes me happy.” The other commented that the center provided a chance for recovery.

Veronica, the third reviewer, gave the facility five out off five stars for its treatment effectiveness and wrote: “From the first contact at Cheyenne Center through departure everything went according to procedure."

FINANCING

Cheyenne Center receives funding from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and other state and federal agencies. Private pay is accepted and “funding alternatives” are also available.

[1] https://goo.gl/DeEBwj
