ABOUT TEXAS HEALTH SPRINGWOOD BEHAVIORAL HEALTH HOSPITAL HEB

Texas Health Behavioral Health is a network of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric facilities based around the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The network is part of Texas Health, one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit healthcare organizations in the U.S.

Located on the campus of Texas Health's Springwood Hospital, the Springwood Behavioral Health Hospital is a psychiatric hospital, providing medical detox, inpatient treatment, and a few levels of outpatient care for individuals struggling with substance use disorder, dual diagnosis, and other mental and behavioral health disorders.

The center also provides one of just 38 hospital-based detox programs in the state of Texas. Thirty miles south of the Springwood Hospital, in Mansfield, Texas Health Behavioral Health offers a residential recovery center for people struggling with addiction, which provides treatment for adults, adolescents, and young adults.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment begins with an assessment of the client's individual needs. Treatment methods are evidence-based, and for those clients who need to detox, the process is medically monitored and emotionally supported.

Clients admitted for inpatient treatment at the hospital are monitored round-the-clock until they've stabilized. They participate in therapeutic and psychoeducational sessions as well as having their medications monitored. There are separate wards for adults and adolescents, with a special emphasis on family involvement on the adolescent ward. These services can treat chemical dependency as well as other psychiatric and emotional difficulties.

Beyond inpatient care, the hospital offers partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), each targeted to treat substance use disorder, eating disorders, or other emotional or psychiatric disorders.

Clients transferred to the residential treatment center in nearby Mansfield, Texas, will participate in 12-step programming, evidence-based therapies, individual and group counseling, relapse-prevention sessions, and life-skills training. The center also offers gender-specific programming, with extra fitness and creative therapies, plus dedicated tracks for young adults and adolescents (who are served at 25.8 and 26.7 percent of Texas facilities, respectively). Aftercare options include ongoing individual and group counseling sessions.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment staff at Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health Hospital includes physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselors. All of the facility's staff members are licensed and certified in their respective areas. "This facility gave me many tools to keep in my toolbox. Many of which I still use today 10 years later," one anonymous reviewer wrote. The facility's lowest rating of three stars was given to its holistic offerings.

Springwood Behavioral Health Hospital has mixed feedback on secondary sites at the time of this writing, with a 3.1-star average rating based on 19 reviews on Google, and on Yelp, a five-star rating and two one-star ratings.[1] [2] Some reviewers described finding the support they needed to pull through low periods. "It helped me. I wouldn’t be here today without this place," Irene wrote in one such comment on Google.

But others posted recurrent complaints about insufficient time with doctors, rude and/or unhelpful nurses and other staff, people being held against their will, inappropriate prescription of medications, and a general sense that the facility is more interested in claiming insurance money than in helping people. "Nurses are rude... do to all the stress of being in with so many people and the Psychiatrist had no time to talk to me. They would rather have too many patients to see daily, and case-loads- full," Lauren wrote in a typical comment on Yelp.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed feedback. One parent gave the center just one star in almost all of the evaluated treatment metrics, including its treatment effectiveness, counseling options, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders, and added: "It left us broke and ripped out our hearts."

Both of the remaining loved ones gave the center four stars for its ability to treat co-occurring disorders, though they disagreed on the amount of family participation and counseling options offered, both of which received a two-star and a four-star rating.
