Located twenty five minutes outside of Dallas–Fort Worth, the private psychiatric hospital also offers on-site detox. It's one of only 38 hospital-based treatment facilities in Texas (just eight percent of all hospital-based facilities in the state) to provide medical detox.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Sundance offers free psychosocial assessments 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility’s treatment program combines evidence-based therapies with medication management. Programming for children/adolescents is specialized, a modality available in only 27 percent of treatment facilities in Texas.

Treatment centers around group therapy for both the inpatient and outpatient programs. There are many kinds of group therapy offered, including interpersonal process groups, psycho-educational workshops, skills groups, recreation groups, and art and music therapy, as well as faith-based groups, relapse prevention workshops, and animal-assisted therapy. Most clients in the inpatient program remain in treatment for eight to twelve days.

In addition to intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for adults and adolescents, Sundance offers partial hospitalization programs (PHPs), a level of care available in just 15 percent of treatment facilities in the Texas. Both the adult programs and the child/adolescent programs are four to six weeks long. Individuals between the ages of five and seventeen are eligible to participate in the child/adolescent program.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes doctors specializing in addiction medicine and child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Sundance is a fairly straightforward 116-bed psychiatric hospital — sharp objects such as razors, nail clippers, scissors, and mirrors are prohibited, as are shoelaces, belts, and any clothing with draw strings or long ties. The use of electronic devices, including cell phones, is prohibited.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com to date had opposing opinions of the facility. The first, an anonymous male between the ages of 40 and 59, reported having a negative experience and gave the rehab just one or two out of five stars for its cleanliness, its connectivity and visitor policy, its staff support, and its holistic offerings. He also gave the facility just two stars for its exercise and leisure activities and wrote: "You should be able to go outside and walk around, even prisoners get to go out once a day."

In contrast, the second alum (who also participated anonymously) awarded the facility four or five out of five stars across most of the metrics they evaluated, including cleanliness, administrative and discharge procedures, treatment of co-occurring disorders, and staff's level of training and experience. "By being in there with people who had different problems and with similar experiences and different adult age groups it helped a lot with understanding myself," they noted.

On Google[1], Sundance earned an average rating of 2.5 out of five stars based on 208 Google Reviews. With the exception of a small handful of comments from alumni such as Cheryl ("Therapist genuinely cared about patients and assisted each of us in growing and learning positive coping skills," she wrote), the comments from former clients were negative and included complaints about run-down facilities, poor customer service, problematic billing procedures, and rude staff.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave Sundance mostly positive feedback. Both indicated that they would recommend the facility to friends and family, and one awarded it five out of five stars in almost every metric evaluated, including family participation, cleanliness, counseling options, and the staff's level of training and experience. "Awesome faculty, Really good staff," they wrote.

The other anonymous reviewer, whose former spouse attended treatment, gave the facility three and four out of five stars respectively for the overall quality of its addiction and mental health care, but noted that their loved one ultimately needed a program that was more specialized.

FINANCING

According to Sundance's website, the facility accepts most insurance, including Medicaid and TriCare, for inpatient treatment.

[1] GoogleReviews
