Editorial Review

ABOUT THE NEXT DOOR, INC.

The Next Door (TND) offers holistic, faith and evidence-based addiction rehab treatment programs for women. From a modern, three-story building in Nashville, the state-licensed facility delivers a full continuum of care including medically-monitored detox, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient tracks. Aftercare services are also available.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The admissions process at The Next Door begins with a needs assessment to determine a client’s needs. Many women begin their recovery journey with detox under the care and supervision of an around-the-clock nursing staff. During this initial treatment stage, averaging three to five days in length, women may begin attending processing groups, 12-step based groups, and relapse prevention groups.

Treatment consists of group therapy based on the 12-Steps principles, educational courses, spiritual guidance, creative therapies. Psychiatrists combine cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with other therapy types to create a comprehensive treatment model. The residential program is also highly structured.

Educational courses focus on a variety of topics centered around women’s issues and addiction. Clients participate in a series of courses that promote sober living skills and coping skills. Creative therapies also provide clients with activities that they can continue after treatment.

Family participation is encouraged throughout treatment, and services are available to support clients’ families. Each month, clients and their loved ones learn about addiction, improved communication skills, and setting healthy boundaries through the facility’s Family Enrichment Program.

All clients, upon graduating, receive ongoing aftercare support through the Lifetime Recovery Management (LRM) program. Clients meet in alumni groups to reinforce sober living skills. Accountability practices are used to help clients maintain their sobriety.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team at The Next Door employs a diverse staff of medical, clinical, operations, and human resources efforts. The multidisciplinary treatment team consists of licensed master-level mental health addiction counselors, clinical social workers, a board-certified psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and creative arts and wellness instructors. Spiritual leaders and other clergy members may be available for spiritual guidance and development services.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The Next Door clients live in fully-furnished semi-private rooms with large windows. The common area, featuring bar-style seating and couches, comes equipped with a full refrigerator and a coffee machine. Clients share their meals together in the large dining room.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

At the time of this writing, two former clients polled by Rehabs.com shared disparate rating and feedback. The alumni did not agree with each other about their experience at the facility. “I have been in and worked in several treatment centers and this is the best by far I have ever seen The staff's #1 job is to help before anything else and they do that 100% of the time,” alum Jo wrote. The other alum, in contrast, felt that the program fell short of its extensive, rehabilitative goals. “I felt like I was doing more sharing than anything,” they added.

Despite their conflicting personal experiences, the pair of alumni left ratings of four out of five stars or higher for the center’s level cleanliness and for the family participation found here.

On Google, The Next Door earned an average of 4.1 out of five stars from 17 reviews to date. [1] Nearly all of the reviewers praised the staff and the faith-based treatment program. In a representative review, alum Karlee wrote: “This was the best experience I've had. The staff are amazing and always they to help. I love the fact that the program is faith based. It helped me become the women I was meet to be. The thing is you have to be willing, open minded, and honest to even receive the information needed.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Rehabs.com has also received positive feedback from a single loved one to date. The loved one gave five out of five stars for accommodations, exercise and leisure opportunities, treatment for co-occurring disorders, and the experience of the staff.

Though they felt some of the rules senseless, the anonymous reviewer ultimately gave their blessing: “They're (well-staffed) & take women with drug addictions who are being released from jail, it gives them a safe sober place to go.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

On Glassdoor, The Next Door earned an average rating of 4.1 out of five stars from four reviews. [2] While all of the reviewers liked their job and helping women get “back on the right track,” staff members noted that they were unhappy with management. One called management “sneaky,” while another claimed the facility had “poor planning for hiring and cutting staff.”

FINANCING

The Next Door works with a range of private insurance options including CIGNA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Aetna. TennCare is also accepted. Self-pay is accepted, and clients that cannot pay may receive financial assistance. The three Rehabs.com survey respondents, despite their complaints, unequivocally considered treatment to be both affordable and worth the cost.

[1] https://goo.gl/ctKrs2
[2] https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/The-Next-Door-Reviews-E991476.htm
