ABOUT THE DAVIDSON COUNTY DRUG COURT RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM (DC4)

DC4 is a long-term residential treatment facility for adult men and women who are struggling with substance abuse and involved in the criminal justice system. The facility is operated under the supervision of the local criminal court โ one of the first such self-operated drug court programs in the country. Residents tend to have multiple previous drug charges plus prior incarcerations. In addition to residential care, the facility offers outpatient treatment and aftercare services.

All clients are referred via the criminal justice system. It is one of 58 long-term residential treatment facilities in Tennesee.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The program uses 12-step methods, alongside cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI).** Residents receive random drugs screenings throughout treatment.

All new clients receive assessments on substance abuse, educational, employment, and medical status which are used to put together individualized treatment plans. During an initial assessment and orientation phase, which lasts at least 12 weeks, residents stay on-site 24/7.

During the second 12-week stage, residents participate in individual, group, and family therapy; psychoeducational groups; relapse prevention groups; and groups designed to help them hone their coping strategies. The second stage also introduces life skills sessions and vocational and educational/GED training, plus off-site 12-step meetings, so that clients can begin to integrate into the community. Also with a view to community integration, residents perform 200 hours of community service work.

In the third phase of treatment, residents develop an aftercare plan and begin to receive off-site passes to aid them in re-entering the community. Finally, aftercare lasts a minimum of six months, during which time residents live in transitional housing and return to the facility for weekly group therapy sessions as well as two drug tests every week.

In addition to residential treatment, the center offers a year-long intensive outpatient program (IOP). The IOP involves individual treatment, group treatment two to four times per week, and at least two random drug screens per week. IOP clients must also maintain full-time employment and pay all fees related to their court proceedings and program.

Among the major goals of the program is to divert clients from the criminal justice system and encourage them to achieve sobriety. According to the facility's website, the recidivism rate for successful graduates of the program is around 25%, and the program's retention rate is around 65%.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The facility employs seven full-time counselors. The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility two out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

At any one time, the center tends to have around 80 clients in residential treatment, 25 in outpatient, and 25 in aftercare, though it can accommodate up to 171 clients across the various treatment settings.
