Editorial Review

ABOUT NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH

Neighborhood Health, located in Nashville, Tenn., offers comprehensive medical care to residents throughout the city and surrounding area of Nashville. The organization was started in 1976 as two volunteer clinics providing accessible and affordable healthcare to underserved Nashville neighborhoods.

After merging the two locations, Neighborhood Health continued to grow into 11 centers, offering its services regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. The facility offers treatment to individuals struggling with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders, making the organization among the 116 (51.1 percent) of facilities in the state to treat co-occurring disorders.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Neighborhood Health provides a wide variety of medical services to their clients. As a part of their homeless services, the facility offers psychiatric care and a 12-week co-occurring group program for clients struggling with both mental illness and substance abuse.

The counseling department is also equipped to support clients struggling with a serious illness, those who are abusing drugs or alcohol, experiencing family problems, loss of a job, financial difficulties, loss of a loved one, or a traumatic experience.

Clients in need of substance use treatment may also be referred to other community resources or residential services. The “SOS” Program at the facility is intended to help those struggling with prescription medication, opioid or heroin use, providing counseling along with medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

Everyone qualifies for care at Neighborhood Health, including U.S. Citizens, new immigrants, and refugees. There are also openings each day for same-day medical and dental care.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Neighborhood Health's treatment team consists of medical clinicians, including doctors, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists, as well as behavioral clinicians, such as therapists, social workers, and psychiatric nurse practitioners.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing
gave generally positive feedback about her experience at this facility, producing five-star ratings for treatment effectiveness, the level of family participation, and facility cleanliness. She strongly agreed that the facility was well-equipped to treat co-occurring disorders, and that it had many counseling options. She felt that a strength of the facility was the caring therapists, whom she referred to as "sweet" and "loveable." This former client also added that, “They helped me in every aspect of my recovery.”

Reviews elsewhere online are somewhat scarce, though the sole Google reviewer to date provided a five-star rating, with no written feedback.[1] Similarly, the sole Yelp reviewer for this facility to date provided five out of five stars.[2] Though this user's review was not about mental health or substance abuse, she noted, "Service is quick, efficient, kind, gentle, compassionate, friendly."

FINANCING

The cost of treatment at the facility is not published, but the facility accepts most insurance plans. Neighborhood Health offers a discount program for those without insurance. To qualify for the discount program, clients should bring proof of income or a letter from a church or agency who knows the individual’s financial circumstances to their first visit.

There is a charge at the client’s first visit of $25 or the amount of the individual’s copay per their insurance guidelines. If a client does not have $25, they should bring any amount that they are able to pay at that time, though care will not be denied, but the client will be billed for the remainder of the balance.

[1] GoogleReviews

[2] https://www.yelp.com/biz/neighborhood-health-nashville
