<p><strong>ABOUT GRACE HOUSE OF MEMPHIS</strong></p> <p>Located in Memphis, Tenn., Grace House of Memphis is one of Tennessee’s <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">140 private, non-profits</a>, and offers <strong>drug, alcohol, and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring mental disorder</a> treatment facility for women</strong>. This organization is a United Way agency and is <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/nmhss_state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">one of 238 facilities</a> licensed by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. </p> <p>Grace House offers several treatment options, including a <strong>social detox program</strong>, <strong>residential care, a halfway house for extended treatment</strong> (Grace House Extended), and an <strong>outpatient program</strong>. </p> <p><strong>TREATMENT AND ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Grace House is among the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">35.5% of Tennessee facilities</a> that offer offers gender-specific treatment for women, integrated treatment, and individualized care. Case management services are also available to clients, which is a service offered at <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/cbhsq-reports/2017_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">83 percent of U.S. treatment facilities</a>. With the assistance of a counselor, each client develops a personal plan to address her own needs and guide her through the treatment process.</p> <p>Although medical detox is not offered on-site, Grace House of Memphis starts treatment with a <strong>three- to seven-day social detox program</strong>, which prohibits phone calls, letters, or visitors. Clients are also not allowed to bring their own electronic devices. Without distractions, clients can focus on recovery.</p> <p>With only <strong>13 women</strong> accommodated at a time, Grace House offers individualized care. Programming typically includes <strong>individual, group, and family counseling</strong> along with 12-step work and meetings. The <strong>12-step</strong> program is a preferred method in the U.S., as it is used in up to <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/cbhsq-reports/2017_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">83 percent of facilities</a> for its continuing care, spiritual support, and community-based methods. </p> <p>Education is a common component of treatment, and clients also attend life skills groups, lectures, and workshops on <strong>assertiveness, communication, and relationships</strong>. After completing primary long-term treatment, clients have two options for <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/extended-recovery-programs/" target="_blank">aftercare</a>. The facility has a halfway house program to help clients transition out of treatment completely. There is also an outpatient program for clients to use as a step-down method.</p> <p>Clients who go to Grace House Extended, the halfway house, typically stay for another <strong>three to 12 months</strong>, making Grace House one of Tennessee’s 54 long-term, non-hospital <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">residential treatment facilities</a>. Grace House also offers <strong>basic computer and job readiness training</strong>, an aftercare program, and housing assistance. Job training is available in <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/cbhsq-reports/2017_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">38.6 percent of U.S. treatment facilities</a>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The facility is accredited by multiple organizations and is a part of the <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/cbhsq-reports/2017_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">29 percent of U.S. facilities</a> accredited by CARF. It is also one of the six facilities accredited by the <a href="http://gracehouseofmemphis.org/" target="_blank">Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services</a>. To date, the four individuals polled by Rehabs.com on the matter praised the staff's level of training and experience.</p> <blockquote> <p>Staff Experience and Training: 4.5/5</p> </blockquote> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Grace House’s detox program offers four beds, the rehabilitation program offers <strong>13 beds</strong>, and Grace House Extended offers eight beds. A video on the website depicts the living experience as offering a <strong>home-like environment</strong>. Clients have access to staff members at all times including case managers who help them manage their treatment options. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two alumni polled by Rehabs.com about the Grace House of Memphis at the time of this writing provided mixed feedback. One alum, Mary, gave five stars for the likelihood they'd recommend the treatment center, the effectiveness of lead counselors, and holistic offerings. "Once you are a client, you are always a client. Their networking and personal care once you leave is absolutely amazing," they wrote. The other alum gave five stars for the amount of staff support, though gave three stars for the facility's ability to resolve conflict and reported relapse once discharged.</p> <p>On Google, Grace House-Memphis-Bellevue earned an average of <strong>2.8 out of five stars</strong> from six reviews to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Feedback ranged from positive feedback about the “caring and compassionate group” to interactions with a “RUDE and Very sarcastic” receptionist. Another alum pointed out that she felt “pushed away” and that the program lacked aftercare, as she was “not contacted by anyone at any time.”</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com about the Grace House of Memphis at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback, and they appreciated the care their loved ones received at Grace House. They both gave five stars when asked if they would recommend the treatment center. They also gave five and four stars for its treatment of co-occurring disorders. One loved one wrote that there is a “sense of community and family with staff and clients” and that “it was like a big family and treats the whole person and helps families understand.”</p> <p>Both loved ones gave five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience, as well as family participation. "They have a very good staff and help you in every means that they have if you are willing to put in the effort to get better," a loved one wrote. </p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>To date, Rehabs.com has received one staff review about the VA Puget Sound, and it echoed the reviews provided by loved ones. “Professionalism was good but funding sources were poor,” the employee wrote. This staff member gave four out of five stars for their job satisfaction and for the overall quality of patient care. However, they gave three stars when polled about having a fair salary and the facility’s treatment for co-occurring disorders.</p> <p>On Indeed, 20 current and former staff members gave Grace House an average rating of <strong>4.1 out of five stars</strong> to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> The reviews came from staff members from various locations, not specifically the Memphis location. Employees indicated an appreciation for the religious-based “discipleship program” and their ability to “make an impact” with clients.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Grace House is one of <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/TN17.pdf" target="_blank">97 facilities in the state</a> that offer treatment at no cost for clients who cannot pay. According to Health Grove, state insurance (other than Medicaid) is accepted and the facility offers <strong>sliding fee scales</strong>.</p> <p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p> <p>Grace House stays active in the community so that it can reach as many clients as possible.
