ABOUT U-TURN FOR CHRIST โ€” LEXINGTON

As its name suggests, U-Turn for Christ โ€” Lexington is a strongly Christian residential recovery center, providing residential treatment for men aged 18+ who are struggling with substance abuse. One of 14 U-Turn for Christ facilities around the US โ€” there are also locations in, for example, California, New Mexico, Tennessee, and New Jersey as well as around the world โ€” U-Turn for Christ Lexington is sited in a semi-rural location 20 miles southwest of the city of Columbia, in central South Carolina.

U-Turn for Christ does not offer detox services; new clients must have been sober for 24 hours before admission. This facility accepts court referrals.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The program is split into two phases: Phase One lasts two months and Phase Two, six months. Phase Two is optional but strongly encouraged, though all court-referred clients must complete the full eight-month program.

During Phase One, men participate in up to five Bible study sessions per day, as well as completing volunteer work and chores. During Phase Two, the men work and learn to budget their money and live within their means, while continuing to participate in two Bible studies per day. This phase of treatment is designed to provide residents with a safety net while they put all they've learned in the program into practice in the real world.

Residents are kept busy with programming between 5.30 a.m and 10 p.m..

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is a pastor on staff, who runs the center's thrift store. There is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

During Phase One, men live in dormitory-style accommodations in mobile homes. The facility notes that these close quarters are designed to improve communication skills and unity through Jesus. The four individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility an average rating of 2.25 out of five stars for its accommodations.

Visitors are welcome on Sunday afternoons, following an initial 12-day probationary period. Visitation is restricted to immediate family: spouses are welcome, but boyfriends and girlfriends are not. In addition, visitors and residents alike must abide by a strict dress code that includes restrictions on secular logos, short and tight clothing, and pants that sag. Finally, clients must abstain from all tobacco products during treatment.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The four reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date were polarized: two were very negative and two very positive. Both of the positive reviewers wrote that they had achieved lasting sobriety at this facility, as well as building a sober network and establishing a strong relationship with God. "This place absolutely saved my life... U turn gave me a sense of worth, and showed me where my identity truly lies. I have the best network of friends and family through this program and the Calvary Chapel its tied too," J.B.W. wrote in a representative review.

Both of the negative reviewers described poor treatment from staff: "mean," "cruel," and "humiliating" were the words used. "THe place was disgusting and shocking," Paul wrote, and L.L.F. added: "Cruel staff. Negative punishments. Starvation Bedbugs. 17 hour days Hard labor even for residents in poor health."

Secondary sites yielded no review coverage at the time of this writing.

FINANCING

Treatment costs $500 per month, and there's a minimum two-month commitment, equating to a $1,000 fee payable on admission.
