ABOUT UNITED MINISTRIES

Located in Greenville, S.C., United Ministries is a nonprofit, which make up about 35 percent of all treatment facilities in South Carolina. It aims to address poverty, financial crisis, and homelessness in Greenville, northern South Carolina. Alongside adult education services and crisis assistance services, such as emergency financial assistance, United offers the Place of Hope Day Shelter, a drop-in facility that's open daily, and which offers services for homeless people, ranging from showers to help accessing longer-term support.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to United Ministries' website, Place of Hope's ultimate goal is to get participants off the streets and into homes of their own. Though the facility provides case management services and can help clients to access treatment, it does not seem to offer any counseling or other direct support for substance use disorder.

Clients may drop in to access a shower, the restroom, laundry services, lockers, and telephones. For those individuals who are interested, these drop-in services can lead to more intensive support, via case management that can help clients to get identification, access treatment for problematic substance use or mental health disorders, secure housing, and/or obtain legal services.

United provides very little further information about Place of Hope's offerings, though the organization does also operate an education and employment division that provides GED and one-on-one employability classes. Place of Hope clients are encouraged to participate in these sessions once they've secured their basic needs.

Through the local church congregation, United also offers a network of emergency shelters and short-term housing for parents with children. These shelters provide meals as well as a place to sleep.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Place of Hope employs a program manager and a case manager, neither of whose credentials are provided at the time of this writing. There is currently no further information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff, however the single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility one out of five stars for its staff's level of training and experience.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews directly from alumni of Place of Hope. However, United Ministries as a whole had a 4.8 out of five star average rating based on 52 reviews left on Facebook (where the center can manage its own page) at the time of this writing. [1]

Though several reviews applied to provisions other than the facility's Place of Hope program, those that did describe the program were unanimously very positive. "I think God for everything you all have done for my family and I we have excelled beyond belief thank you for giving me that push I needed to give my girls and I have a better life," J.R.R. wrote in a representative review.

To date, the 32 people to leave Google Reviews gave an average of 4.4 out of five stars. Most reviewers praised the treatment program and friendly staff. "Very helpful, resourceful, and supportive to people in the community," J.T. wrote on Google. [2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The single loved one polled by Rehabs.com to date gave very negative feedback. "Strengths:None. Weaknes:Everything," they wrote, giving the facility one out of five stars in all 15 of the evaluated treatment metrics, including its holistic offerings, family participation, counseling options, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders.

FINANCING

United does not charge for its services, but is funded through donations, grants, fundraising, and funds from the United Way. It is one of the 66 (61.1 percent) of South Carolina treatment facilities that offers services at no charge.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/pg/UnitedMinistries/reviews/?ref=page_internal

[2] GoogleReviews
