Services & Treatment

Editorial Review

ABOUT LRADAC

With two campuses located in South Carolina, one in downtown Columbia and one in nearby Lexington County, LRADAC is a nonprofit agency that offers a wide array of substance abuse treatment services for adults and adolescents. Most programs offered are outpatient-based, however inpatient detoxification services are available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility’s website, all clients undergo an assessment and interview to determine the appropriate course of care and create a personalized treatment plan. While inpatient-based detox is available, the center’s website does not state how long treatment is. However, the website did suggest that clients bring enough clothes for five to seven days.

Adult outpatient treatment is held a number of times a week and includes individual counseling, group therapy, case management, job training, life skills trainings, and peer support. There is also a specialized Maternal Outreach Management Services (MOMS) program that partners with local OB-GYN offices, social services, and community groups to support pregnant women struggling with substance abuse.

LRADAC offers gender-specific treatment for women, called the Transformation Institute for Women, that addresses the unique issues faced by women in recovery. Additionally, LRADAC works with the South Carolina Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP) to treat court-ordered clients with substance-related convictions treatment and education. The facility can also make referrals to the South Carolina Recovering Professional Program, which is designed specifically for licensed health professionals.

All programs for adolescents are tailored to meet each young client’s needs. Treatment activities include group therapy, individual counseling, education and intervention workshops, and regular drug screenings. Loved ones are encouraged to participate in family counseling, and family nights are offered to loved ones.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

LRADAC's treatment team includes a medical director, nurses, clinical counselors, and case managers, the center’s website indicates.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The sole former client surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave LRADAC mixed reviews. This individual gave the center five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, as well as four-star ratings for many other categories, including holistic offerings, counseling options, and family participation.

The former client gave slightly lower scores of three stars for the staff’s level of training and experience and ability to treat co-occurring disorders, as well as just two stars for its affordability. When surveyed whether or not the treatment and services offered at the facility were worth the cost, this alum gave a "neutral" response. The department head was noted as a strength of the facility, but the “pricing and policies” were listed as weaknesses.

To date, the nine people who provided reviews for LRADAC on Google reviews generated a below-average score of 2.3 out of five stars.[1] Five of these reviewers left one-star ratings and cited rude staff and high costs as the reasons for these ratings. The reviewers who gave higher ratings did not provide commentary.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The two loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the facility mixed-to-positive reviews. One individual gave the facility a five-star rating for treatment effectiveness and described the facility as having “highly qualified staff members who are very caring.” Yet the reviewer also wrote that the facility “needs to be able to offer more services to more people.” Still, the loved one gave perfect five-star ratings for the facility's counseling options, affordability, the connectivity and visitor policies, and the admissions and discharge procedures.

The other reviewer gave more mediocre responses to the survey questions asked, giving four stars for the facility's affordability, three stars for its counseling options, and two stars for its connectivity and visitor policies. Additionally, they felt that there were "not enough counselors to go around."

FINANCING

According to LRADAC’s website, the facility accepts most forms of insurance including Medicaid. The facility states that “no client is turned away because of inability to pay,” and will work with clients to develop a payment plan. The center's HealthGrove page indicates that state insurances and Access to Recovery (ATR) vouchers are accepted as well.

[1] https://goo.gl/gYcTNu
