Editorial Review

ABOUT BRIDGEMARK ADDICTION RECOVERY SERVICES

Formerly known as Kent House, Bridgemark Addiction Recovery Services is one of the 35 (67.3 percent) nonprofit addiction treatment facilities in R.I., located in the Providence suburb of Warwick. Founded more than 30 years ago, the facility offers residential treatment for adult males, as well as co-ed outpatient services, transitional housing, and aftercare. Alongside substance abuse, the center is among the 34.6 percent in the state that is able to treat gambling disorders and within the 76.9 percent that offer anger management treatment and interpersonal violence interventions.

According to the center’s website, Bridgemark is one of few facilities in the area that provides services for the deaf, as well as offering all services in Spanish.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

In Bridgemark’s residential program for men, treatment is individualized, and the length of stay varies according to the client’s needs. The program follows a progressive, four-level treatment structure and includes group, individual, and family counseling, along with 12-step meetings, special interest programs, and workshops on topics such as relapse prevention and parenting in recovery. There’s also a dedicated track for those who remain in employment during treatment.

Outpatient programming includes an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that offers nine to 12 hours of programming per week, as well as a general outpatient care program, which offers up to nine hours of treatment per week. All outpatient clients receive individualized treatment plans, and staff work closely with them to develop a therapy schedule that is convenient and appropriate.

Bridgemark, like all (100%) Rhode Island treatment facilities, also provides transitional services, including housing options, relapse prevention training, and peer networking opportunities.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes licensed chemical dependency professionals and addiction therapists. In the state of Rhode Island, 98.4 percent of all substance abuse treatment facilities have continuing education requirements for staff.

At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com had polled two staffers on the experience levels of the center’s addiction and mental health treatment staff. One staffer gave two stars and one star respectively in these categories; the other awarded the facility five stars in each.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The residential program for men offers six houses. No other information is available regarding the facility, its amenities, or the number of beds available to clients at time; however, the median number of people in residential substance abuse treatment at a non-OTP facility as of 2016 was 18 clients, and the number in outpatient treatment was 40 clients.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has yet to receive alumni feedback at the time of this writing, and reviews from former clients on secondary sites are similarly scarce.

The sole respondent on Google to date gave this facility just one star, and complained that the staff she interacted with were "rude".[1]

WHAT STAFF SAY

The two staffers polled by Rehabs.com to date, one in management, one an addiction aid, gave polarized feedback. The reviewer who works in management was still working at the center at the time of polling, and noted that they would recommend the facility. This staff member, H.G., awarded Bridgemark five stars in all the evaluated treatment metrics, including its honesty, its willing to put clients’ interests first, and the overall quality of its care. “Their approach and program structure along with their personal experience is highly effective,” H.G. wrote, mentioning that the "facility is owned and operated by a team of individuals who have all have their own personal experience in active addiction."

The other staff respondent at the time of this writing, an addiction aid, indicated that he no longer works at the facility. This reviewer, B.G., had many complaints about Bridgemark, writing, "over reliance on state revenue" and "unsafe." He gave low, one- and two- star ratings in every treatment metric. One-star ratings went to respect for aftercare protocols, the facility staff's honesty, the staff's loyalty, the experience levels of the facility's medical and mental health staff, and the overall quality of facility care.

B.G. thought the only strength of this facility is that it puts "a roof over people's heads," but otherwise criticized the integrity of the program and the quality of the care offered. “Most of the people accepted were neither substance abusers nor interested in 12 step work. They brought jailhouse values to the facility and intimidated the people there who really wanted help,” this former employee commented.

FINANCING

There is currently no information provided on the facility's website regarding its costs; however, according to HealthGrove, the facility accepts state insurance (other than Medicaid), military insurance, and Access to Recovery (ATR) Vouchers. The two staffers polled by Rehabs.com to date on the fairness of the center’s price point gave it a two-star rating and a five-star rating.

[1] https://goo.gl/2gMWac
