<p><strong>ABOUT ROGER WILLIAMS MEDICAL CENTER</strong></p> <p>Located in Providence, R.I., Roger Williams Medical Center is a <strong>hospital</strong> that provides <strong>behavioral health and substance misuse treatment</strong>, in addition to a broad range of other medical services. The center offers treatment in <strong>outpatient, residential and, partial hospitalization</strong> settings. <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">Dual-diagnosis programming</a> is available for those with <strong>co-occurring</strong> mental health conditions.</p> <p>Roger Williams’ website states that it is the only hospital with a Level IV alcohol and drug <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/drug-and-alcohol-detoxification-process/" target="_blank">medical detoxification</a></strong> program in the area. According to a <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/RI17.pdf" target="_blank">2017 SAMHSA survey</a>, 31.3 percent of rehabs in Rhode Island offer detox in an outpatient setting and 8.3 percent offer it in a hospital inpatient setting.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>Staff at Roger Williams work one-on-one with clients and their families to create <strong>individualized treatment plans</strong> to address physical and mental conditions. Medically supervised detoxification services are provided with daily therapy.</p> <p>Following detoxification, clients can be admitted to the facility’s <a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/partial-hospitalization-day-treatment/" target="_blank"><strong>partial hospitalization program (PHP)</strong></a>. A <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/RI17.pdf" target="_blank">2017 SAMHSA survey</a> indicates that 18.8 percent of treatment facilities in Rhode Island offer PHP. In PHP, treatment is offered five days a week for five hours a day. </p> <p>Clients participate in individual counseling, group therapy, and addiction and recovery education. Clients will also be introduced to <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/how-a-non-religious-journalist-makes-a-case-for-aa-in-2017/" target="_blank">12-step programming</a></strong>. In addition, clients with co-occurring mental health disorders may receive ongoing <strong>medication management</strong>.</p> <p>Additionally, Roger Williams offers an <a href="https://www.recovery.org/forums/categories/iop-outpatient-alcohol-treatment" target="_blank"><strong>intensive outpatient program (IOP)</strong></a>. A four-week <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family program</a> includes weekly supportive meetings and addiction education for family members.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>Roger Williams Medical Center employs clinicians, physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, and support staff.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The facility has a <strong>15-bed detoxification unit and a 12-bed inpatient dual-diagnosis unit</strong>. There is also a 12-bed geriatric psychiatry unit. According to a <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/RI17.pdf" target="_blank">2017 SAMHSA survey</a>, the average number of designated beds in Rhode Island hospital facilities is 19. </p> <p>According to Roger Williams' website, facility’s dual-diagnosis unit provides medical and mental care in a small, private setting. Outpatient treatment is provided at the Addiction Services Center.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The two alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com both gave reviews that were mostly positive. In particular, both gave perfect five-star ratings for treatment effectiveness and meal quality and both respondents praised the staff’s level of experience and training. </p> <p>Alum M.S. wrote that she made a “great decision” to attend treatment at Roger William. “All the staff are trained for addiction issues and if by any chance something went wrong with your health u are right in the hospital,” she wrote. Alum C.S. added: “It really helped me to learn about the disease of alcoholism and addiction.”</p> <p>Despite giving positive reviews overall, the two alumni gave low ratings for exercise and leisure activities and holistic programming. They also gave more neutral ratings to the range of counseling options.</p> <p>Roger Williams as a whole earned an average 4.1 out of five stars based on over 300 reviews on its Facebook page, which facility staff can manage.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> Reviews on Google were less positive.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> However, reviews on both sites were not necessarily applicable to the behavioral health or substance misuse treatment in particular.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>Though Rehabs.com has yet to receive any feedback from friends or family of clients, six loved ones gave <strong>highly negative</strong> reviews on Google. Two of the six gave reviews were specific to the substance misuse treatment. Both of these reviewers complained about long waits and trouble accessing treatment. "My daughter went here to get help with a drug addiction. She was there for 2 hours and they sent her home," Jon wrote in a representative review. Several loved ones also expressed feeling that the hospital cared more about money than patients.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Roger Williams Medical Center offers sliding-scale fees and financial aid for those who qualify.
