<p><strong>ABOUT CARITA’S ARTS PROGRAM</strong></p> <p>Located in Cranston, R.I., Carita’s ARTS (Acute Residential Treatment Service) Program offers <strong>short-term intensive treatment for <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/is-my-child-just-experimenting/" target="_blank">adolescents</a> aged 12 through 17</strong> suffering from substance misuse and <a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring mental disorders</a>. Gateway Healthcare is part of the Lifespan health network, an affiliate of Brown University. </p> <p>With more than two dozen locations in Rhode Island, Lifespan offers a complete continuum of child and adult psychiatric and behavioral healthcare across its many facilities, in addition to a broad range of other healthcare services.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to an article in the <a href="https://www.providencejournal.com/article/20151109/NEWS/151109317" target="_blank">Providence Journal</a>, the treatment program has three tracks: mental health, substance misuse, and co-occurring disorders. Treatment primarily utilizes <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/topics/cognitive-behavioral-therapy-for-addiction-treatment/" target="_blank">cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)</a></strong>. Both teens and their caregivers are expected to participate in treatment.</p> <p>The treatment center also offers a <strong>long-term residential rehabilitation program</strong>, which is designed for teens who need a longer residential stay. Programming may consist of a blend of counseling, educational classes, skill-building workshops, and recreational therapy. Medication management may be available for those struggling with mental health concerns. </p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the <a href="https://www.providencejournal.com/article/20151109/NEWS/151109317" target="_blank">Providence Journal</a>, program staff includes a psychologist, psychiatrist, nurses, master-level therapists and other residential staff..</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>Lifespan's website notes that the facility has 16 beds. According to a <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/RI17.pdf" target="_blank">2017 SAMHSA survey</a>, the average number of designated patient beds at inpatient hospital rehab facilities in Rhode Island is 19.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The lone alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mostly positive feedback. Despite giving three out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition, the alum provided positive commentary.</p> <p>"I am a former patient when the Caritas ARTS program was just Caritas house," the alum, E., wrote. "This was a long term residental treatment at the time. I was there for 6 months. I overall found it helpful and it truly changed my life. I think back to thoes 6 months quite often. And very fond of the staff."</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The three loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided <strong>negative to neutral feedback</strong>. Most complaints were aimed at the staff's professionalism. "Completely unprofessional, inadequate staffing, no quality of care, cold food, no continuity of care, aggressor admissions coordinator,safety issues numerous," M.R. one wrote in a representative review.</p> <p>"This place is poorly run and not managed. Very mean and dishonest staff! NO communication and did not deliver any of what they offer," another loved one, B.L.F., wrote.</p> <p>The two loved ones who left reviews on Citehealth at the time of this writing also provided negative feedback.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> "My child has been to this facilty out of sheer need and lack of programs for adolscent girls treatment facilities in RI, unfortunately the staff is not properly trained," an anonymous reviewer wrote in a representative review along with a one-star rating.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>According to Lifespan's website, its hospitals provide treatment to all individuals who need care, regardless of their ability to pay. A <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/RI17.pdf" target="_blank">2017 SAMHSA survey</a> indicates that 25 percent of rehab facilities in Rhode Island offer free treatment to those who otherwise can't afford it.
