Editorial Review

ABOUT FIRETREE, LTD.

Firetree, Ltd., is a nonprofit founded in 1991 to provide transitional substance misuse treatment to adult men and women associated with the criminal justice system. Now, in addition to three such transitional living facilities, the organization operates four facilities offering residential detoxification treatment to adult men and women who are struggling with substance misuse but are not yet involved in the criminal justice system. The facilities are in both town and rural settings, in the western Pennsylvania communities of Hummelstown, Blairsville, Pottsville, and Beavertown.

With both short- and long-term options, Firetree is one of 143 treatment facilities (27.1 percent) in Pennsylvania to offer residential treatment. In addition to inpatient treatment options, Firetree offers outpatient treatment through a joint venture with Genesis House, Inc.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Firetree views addiction as a chronic disease. Its centers are established as modified therapeutic communities, in which peers help each other through treatment. The program uses the 12-Steps alongside evidence-based methodologies such as the Recovery Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC) approach, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing (MI).

The detox program offers medication-assisted therapy (MAT) when appropriate, including buprenorphine/Suboxone. Firetree is one of only 43 facilities (8.1 percent) in Pennsylvania that provides in-patient detoxification treatment and one of only 758 (4.1 percent) in the state to offer buprenorphine treatment.

Along with attending daily on-site 12-step meetings and fellowship lectures, clients participate in a structured schedule of psychoeducational classes, coping skills training, and group counseling sessions, including gender-specific groups and dedicated groups for those struggling with co-occurring mental health disorders.

Firetree also employs what they call a Relapse Court, a unique component of Conewago inpatient treatment programs. Relapse Court is a structured relapse-prevention model that assists clients in effective discharge planning. Before a client successfully completes treatment, the client’s relapse prevention plan must be peer-approved.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its treatment staff, however, the three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave generally positive reviews. One representative anonymous reviewer wrote that the "Staff is very personable. They genuinely care if you're willing to try."

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Conewago Place in rural Hummerstown, Pa., has 55 beds for residential treatment for males aged 18 years and older. Conewago Pottsville, in the small city of Pottsville, has 20 detox beds and 24 residential beds for adult men and women.
