<p><strong>ABOUT MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES IN STATE COLLEGE, PA</strong></p> <p>Located in State College, Penn., Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Services is one of just <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/PA16.pdf" target="_blank">76 (14.4%) facilities in the state</a> to provide <strong>short-term, inpatient care for adults suffering from a mental health crisis.</strong></p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to the center’s website, all patients need medical clearance before admission into the inpatient program. Once a person is cleared, a crisis team member will conduct a psychiatric assessment to determine what treatment plan is required.</p> <p>After a person is admitted into the program, the patient will meet with different clinicians to determine how the center can meet his or her treatment needs.</p> <p>The treatment team <strong>uses a holistic, solution-oriented approach.</strong> The center strives to provide care that is safe, comfortable, and confidential.</p> <p>The center’s website indicates the overall goal of the center is to help patients learn and practice new coping skills. Some treatment approaches include <strong>individual therapy</strong>, available at 99.4% of PA facilities, <strong>group therapy</strong>, available at 94.3% of PA facilities, and <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/the-pain-of-addiction-in-the-family-how-counseling-can-help/" target="_blank">family therapy</a></strong>, <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/PA16.pdf" target="_blank">offered at 88.8% of treatment centers</a> in the state. Support-system assessment, medication therapy, evaluations, and therapeutic activities are all also services available at Mount Nittany Medical Center. </p> <p>The center <strong>is staffed 24 hours a day, and the average length of stay is five to seven days.</strong></p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The center’s website indicates the treatment team includes a medical director certified in psychiatry, psychiatric social workers, a certified recreation therapist, counselors, and registered nurses. The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave <strong>staff level of support five out of five stars</strong>.</p> <p>In Pennsylvania, <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/report_3059/ShortReport-3059.pdf" target="_blank">98.7% of all treatment facilities</a> have continuing education requirements for their staff.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>According to Mount Nittany Medical Center’s website, the behavioral health unit is located on the third floor of the medical center. <strong>It is a 12-bed unit</strong> that exhibits individualized care, as hospital-based treatment programs usually have a slightly higher median of <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">13 residential clients at any given time</a>. The behavioral heath unit has a group therapy room, an activities room, a living room, and a kitchen. There is also a washer and dryer available for the patients.</p> <p>The unit is <strong>non-smoking and tobacco-free.</strong> However, nicotine replacement can be provided.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The sole alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a mostly positive review. The alum gave the center <strong>four out of five stars for overall treatment effectiveness</strong>.</p> <p>This former client gave the center five stars for counseling options and meals &amp; nutrition, and four stars for cleanliness. This individual made note of the level of family participation available, writing, "family meeting with a therapiat to discuss any needs/concerns."
