ABOUT WESLEY FAMILY SERVICES

In July 2017, Dream Again Family Services of Western Pennsylvania and Wesley Spectrum merged under the banner of Wesley Family Services to provide transformational care for clients. The agency’s facility in Kittanning, Pa., offers counseling for individuals, groups, and families struggling with drug abuse and alcoholism. The facility offers intensive outpatient programs (IOP), traditional outpatient (OP) services, as well as specialized treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

This family-oriented counseling center aims to help clients “obtain sobriety and develop skills necessary to maintain a self-directed recovery plan.” To be eligible for outpatient treatment, clients must have a substance abuse disorder and demonstrate a willingness to achieve and maintain recovery from chemical abuse and dependency. No referral is required to enroll in treatment.

The process starts with an assessment. Treatment focuses on prevention, intervention, and education and spans individual or group therapy as well as drug testing for teens and adults. Clients engage in cognitive therapy and a strength-based treatment model to develop healthier ways of living and thinking and ultimately achieve their treatment goals. Although services vary depending on individual needs, they typically include resource referrals, counseling, education, and coping skills workshops.

Priority admission is given to pregnant women who are abusing drugs, women with children, any person using drugs intravenously, those with co-occurring disorders, as well as overdose survivors and veterans.

The facility also offers a Drug and Alcohol Teen Education (D.A.T.E.) program for clients 12 to 20 years of age, who are at high risk of alcohol and substance abuse. As such, Wesley Family Services is among 22.3 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Pennsylvania that have programs tailored to adolescents. This outpatient clinic-based program provides education and coping strategies and, similar to the other of the facility’s Behavioral Health offerings referenced above, does not require a referral for enrollment.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility's website, the treatment staff includes licensed counselors, therapists, and clinicians.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

This Wesley Family Services facility is located less than one hour northeast of Pittsburgh at 314 S. Water Street. It serves clients on Monday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The building complex has nearby parking.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one alum polled by Rehabs.com to date submitted mixed opinions about Wesley Family Services to date, awarding high four out of five-star ratings for affordability, counseling options, likelihood to recommend, and staff experience and training. The anonymous former client found the program “well staffed” and commented favorably about the facility’s “great communication and clean rooms.”

However, they noted that ultimately the facility's programming was not personally effective. “May work for some people but did not work for me.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

On secondary site Indeed, Wesley Family Services received negative feedback to date: 2.2 out of five stars based on 33 reviews. [1] Note that these ratings applied to the organization as a whole in Pennsylvania and not to the Kittanning facility specifically; in fact, no reviewer referenced working or having worked at Kittanning. One reviewer commented about the merger of Wesley Spectrum Services and Family Services of Western Pennsylvania, describing it as a “hostile takeover” and adding that, as a consequence, the family-based outpatient facility laid off many of its experienced and dedicated staff members.

FINANCING

There currently is no information provided on the Wesley Family Services webpage or elsewhere online regarding its treatment costs. The anonymous former client who reviewed the facility for Rehabs.com assigned four out of five stars for the program’s cost worthiness as well as for its affordability.

[1] https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Wesley-Family-Services/reviews
