<p><strong>ABOUT UPMC ALTOONA</strong></p> <p>UPMC Altoona is one of Pennsylvania’s 308 <strong><a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/PA16.pdf" target="_blank">private, non-profit treatment facilities</a></strong> and is located in Altoona, Pa., about halfway between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. Serving more than 20 counties throughout Central Pennsylvania, the licensed 380-bed hospital offers an educational program for youth struggling with substance abuse, <strong>mental and behavioral health assessments</strong>, and <strong>referral services</strong> through its Access Center.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>UPMC Altoona’s addiction recovery services are managed through the <strong>Access Center</strong>. Clients can contact the center at anytime to arrange services for themselves and others. The center can coordinate medical services as well as services for behavioral health disorders. These services are coordinated over the phone, as well as in person at the facility as needed. </p> <p>The admission process begins with an initial phone call. During the call, clients speak with an intake specialist who can <strong>determine the needed level of care</strong>. Once a diagnosis has been determined, clients are referred to the appropriate programs for treatment. Through three locations in Pittsburgh, UPMC offers a full continuum of treatment programs - both inpatient and outpatient - as well as medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for individuals struggling with opioid addiction.</p> <p>Working in partnership with local organizations and agencies, the <strong>educational program for youth</strong> aims to provide preventive education and care through a combination of <strong>skills training</strong> and <strong>alternative activities</strong>. If necessary, the facility can provide youth and their families referrals for more intensive care options, such as outpatient or inpatient program.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>UPMC Altoona is a large medical facility with more than 300 physicians on staff. The Access Center staff specializes in addiction recovery, substance abuse prevention, and case management.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The single alum polled by Rehabs.com to date gave five out of five stars for over a dozen different categories, including the staff’s level of training and experience and administrative and discharge planning. Despite the hospital’s large staff, the anonymous reviewer felt that the hospital was understaffed at their time of attendance. “It was years ago, but the staff was very kind, loving, and understanding no matter who you are,” they wrote.</p> <p>To date, UPMC Altoona also received a <strong>hospital-wide average rating of 2.3 stars out of five from 72 Google reviewers</strong>, many of whom shared polarized experiences of the staff here.
