ABOUT SOUTHERN OREGON REHABILITATION CENTER & CLINICS (SORCC)

Located in White City, Ore., about 20 minutes north of Medford, the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinic (SORCC) offers outpatient treatment to veterans struggling with substance use disorder, psychiatric concerns, and co-occurring disorders. Run by the U.S. Department of Veteran affairs, it's one of 37 substance abuse treatment facilities in Oregon (16.4 percent of all treatment facilities in the state) to provide treatment tailored to vets.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Addiction Treatment Program (SATP) at the SORCC is educational, helping vets quickly identify their strengths, weaknesses, needs, and potential triggers, which may be achieved through group, individual, and family settings.

Utilizing evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and relapse prevention training, the facility helps vets develop the skills needed for long-term recovery in a supportive group environment.

The SORCC campus is also host to an intensive outpatient program (IOP), a modality available in 63.7 percent of Oregon treatment centers. Clients struggling with primary and co-occurring mental health concerns may receive psychiatric assessments and ongoing medication management as necessary. Aftercare groups are offered at SORCC both during the day and in the evenings to accommodate client schedules.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Although there is no information available regarding the SATP's staff credentials, 99.2 percent of substance abuse treatment facilities in Oregon have continuing education requirements for staff.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one alum surveyed by Rehabs.com to date, an anonymous male over the age of 60, gave SORCC's substance abuse treatment program a positive review. He awarded it four or five out of five stars for its counseling options, its cleanliness, its treatment of co-occurring disorders, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its staff's level of training and experience. "Helps with underlying problems," the alum wrote. "They helped me immencely."

As a whole, the SORCC earned an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars based on 43 Google reviews[1] and a 4.2 out of five-star rating based on the opinions of 159 individuals on Facebook, which the facility may manage[2].

While the majority of feedback addressed services other than the SATP, there were a handful of positive comments about facility's mental health programs, particularly pertaining to its caring staff. One representative reviewer, Susan, wrote: "I took classes here for my PTSD and it has helped a lot. I feel so much better. The Mental Health Department is awesome. They make feel like they care." Alum Phillip agreed and noted: "96% of the staff genuinely care for veterans. You get out what you put into your program. I attended many classes for post combat therapy and I have no complaints."

FINANCING

The cost of treatment is not provided on this VA center’s website, although the center does accept private health insurance. The VA website maintains: “Generally, VA cannot bill Medicare, but can bill Medicare supplemental health insurance for covered services.”

CONCLUSION

According to a 2018 report, Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics in White City planned to expand its mental health services by hiring 250 new employees. At least 100 of these new hires were intended to provide mental health care for veterans.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pg/VASouthOregon/reviews/?ref=page_internal
