ABOUT AWAKENINGS BY THE SEA

Awakenings by the Sea is a residential treatment center for women located on the North Oregon Coast. With 12-step treatment at its core, Awakenings offers an intimate recovery setting with a full range of care options, including on-site medical detox, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and family programming for women struggling with substance use. The facility is one of only 37 long-term residential facilities in Oregon, and one of only 24 residential facilities to offer medically assisted detox.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

With residential programming designed to last 30, 60, or 90 days, treatment addresses various issues affecting women struggling with substance use, such as trauma and grief, along with co-occurring addictions with food, shopping, gambling, and relationship and sexuality issues. There is also a 90-day IOP track, for those with less severe issues, as well as aftercare counseling for successful graduates of Awakenings by the Sea.

In the first 30 days of treatment, many women begin their recovery process with medically monitored detox under the supervision of an on-site physician and a 24-hour nursing staff. While in detox, women undergo a comprehensive physical and psychological evaluation. Once medically stable, patients are introduced to 12-Step and begin attending educational lectures on addiction.

Women who stay for the second and third phases of treatment dig deeper into issues, such as body image, relationship dynamics, guilt, and shame. They will also take part in the Recovery Enrichment Program, a unique five-day intensive seminar designed to help women recognize self-destructive behavior patterns while they are still manageable.

Seeing physical health as an integral component to a successful recovery, Awakenings by the Sea also provides women with nutrition education, fitness programming, and yoga classes. In addition, each month families are invited for a weekend-long family addiction recovery program. Featuring topical lectures on the nature of addiction, family dynamics, and relapse within the family, the two-day program takes place at a nearby hotel and is accessible to families near and far.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Awakening by the Sea’s treatment team consists of a licensed physician, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), certified drug and alcohol counselors (CADCs), and other facilities and administrative personnel. Supervised care is available 24 hours a day.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

The quaint, two-story house (referred to by the program as “The Little Yellow House”) features comfortable furnishings and a shared living space. Women are housed in semi-private rooms with single beds.

Gourmet meals are served family-style in the dining room, and amenities include an on-site yoga and exercise studio, as well as a communal computer.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Sharon, the one former client polled by Rehabs.com to date, shared a mixed review. Although she gave four out of five star ratings for the 12-step meetings, the family involvement, and the quality of meals, she went on to list several complaints. “Not enough recreational, or therapeutic programs. If they had more medical treatment and therapy, people would be better off.”

However, feedback sourced from secondary sites was very positive. On Google reviews, 15 individuals awarded the center an average rating of 4.3 out of five stars to date.[1] On Awakenings' Facebook page, which the facility may have the ability to control, 54 reviewers left an average rating of 4.5 out of five stars.[2]

“This place is great!” alum Aaron wrote in a representative review on Google. “The program is great, providing a healthy balance between academia, treatment, and recreation.” Alum Val agreed and shared her success story: “Taught me how to love myself for first in my life.”

Much in contrast, former client Rose left a furious two-star review in which she called the staff “disorganized,” and reported insurance issues and missing items. “I would recommend looking elsewhere for drug and alcohol treatment.”

FINANCING

Awakenings by the Sea accepts private insurance, though prospective clients are advised to call and confirm coverage information. Financing options and loan terms are also available.

[1] https://goo.gl/TXJZsg

[2] https://www.facebook.com/AwakeningsByTheSea/
