Editorial Review

ABOUT SERENITY LANE - PORTLAND

Portland is home to two of Serenity Lane’s nine outpatient substance abuse treatment centers in Oregon and Washington, which include one in Eugene. An intensive outpatient program built on 12-step concepts, with an emphasis on family involvement, is offered in Portland as well as DUII services. Serenity Lane, a nonprofit organization founded in 1973, also operates addiction counselor training and inpatient treatment programs in Coburg, about 100 miles south of Portland.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients in the intensive outpatient program (IOP) meet nine hours a week for 10 weeks, with morning and evening meeting times available. Individual and group counseling, educational sessions, and a weekly family session are all incorporated. Topics addressed include relapse prevention, grief and loss, skills development, PTSD, and co-occurring depression and anxiety.

After completing the IOP, clients may attend a weekly recovery support group for up to 18 months as a part of the aftercare program included in the cost of primary treatment.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team includes certified alcohol and drug counselors and the Portland director holds a master’s degree.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Portland’s larger of two facilities, on Barbur Blvd., is set on a tree-lined lot just off the Pacific Highway. A second location is in a mixed residential and commercial neighborhood on Southeast Stark.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The one former client polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave the program five out of five stars each for metrics measuring effectiveness and affordability of treatment, the level of family participation in treatment programming, and the facility’s cleanliness and upkeep.

They indicated that counseling options were limited, but that the program offered good one-on-one time with therapists, describing Serenity Lane as “a great place to get your head screwed back on the right way, you leave stronger and with a new passion ….to live.”

Further feedback specific to the Portland clinics is scarce; however, data collected by Rehabs.com from alumni of the Eugene facility reflected overwhelming positive opinions. Likewise, Serenity Lane’s official Facebook page focused on the Coburn residential facility, which garnered an average of 4.6 out of five stars from 32 reviews, which may be monitored by the organization’s staff.[1]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

All three anonymous loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing also indicated strong satisfaction with the facility. They gave either four- or five-star ratings each for metrics measuring their likelihood to recommend Serenity Lane to others, the effectiveness of treatment, counseling options, and the level of staff training and experience.

While one respondent noted that the program was costly, they also wrote: “It helped a friend with a long time alcohol problem get through this and get his life back on track.”

FINANCING

According to the facility’s website, most insurance plans are accepted, including Oregon’s state health plan. The cost of outpatient treatment is reported as “$4500 and up,” and some financial assistance is available for qualifying clients.

[1] https://www.facebook.com/SerenityLaneTreatmentCenters/
