Services & Treatment

Editorial Review

ABOUT EMERGENCE ADDICTION & MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Emergence Addiction & Mental Health Services operates six substance abuse treatment facilities in Lane, Linn, and Benton Counties of Oregon, making up six of the 197 outpatient treatment centers in the state. The Albany center, located in a residential neighborhood toward the south of the mid-sized city, offers outpatient treatment and DUI services for individuals struggling with substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health disorders.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

The Emergence program is built around evidence-based practices, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and moral reconation therapy (MRT). Alongside these methodologies, which are used in individual and group settings, the organization also offers family counseling.

The Albany center offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) known as the Threshold program, which meets three times a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. The program is designed to help clients to examine the “roles, rules, and relics of unhealthy relationships” and begin reshaping their lives. Crucially, the center aims to empower clients to make their own decisions. Graduating clients are invited to participate in 12 months of continuing care.

The DUI program, Discovery, meets once per week for two hours, with classes in the evenings, mornings, or weekends. Specific service plans and durations are tailored to the client's needs, but for all clients, the program focuses on helping participants understand how their substance-related choices affect them and others, and how they can make better choices. Treatments include group and individual therapy and therapeutic activities. At the end of treatment, clients might be referred to ongoing counseling if needed. In Oregon, Emergence is among the 54.9 percent of facilities to provide specialized services for DUI offenders.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Across its facilities, Emergence employs psychiatric nurses as well as master's- and bachelor's-level therapists and counselors. The single individual polled by Rehabs.com to date on the staff’s level of training and experience gave it three out of five stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com hasn't yet polled any Emergence alumni directly, however, secondary sites yield polarized feedback on the Albany facility, with two one-star ratings and two five-star ratings spread between Google and an unofficial Facebook page.[1] [2] Both of the negative reviewers complained that Emergence recommended intensive and expensive treatment despite this not being necessary, in their view. "They just want your money and time," one anonymous reviewer wrote on Google in a representative comment.

"Emergence staff worked with me and helped me change my attitude and thoughts about my behaviors," wrote the single satisfied reviewer who left any commentary with their rating. They added thanks to Emergence for their continued sobriety.

WHAT STAFF SAY

The single staffer polled by Rehabs.com to date gave mixed feedback, giving Emergence three out of five stars for its counseling options and treatment for co-occurring disorders, and one star for its family program. “Great counlers. Long list to get in,” the anonymous reviewer wrote, remaining neutral on the question of whether they would recommend the facility.

FINANCING

This facility accepts all major insurance policies as well as the Oregon Health Plan, a Medicaid plan — making Emergence one of the 80.7 percent of facilities in Oregon that accepts Medicaid. The single staff member polled by Rehabs.com on the center’s affordability gave it one out of five stars.

[1] GoogleReviews
[2] https://www.facebook.com/pages/Emergence-Addiction-and-Behavioral-Therapies/164648093562361
