Editorial Review

ABOUT GREEN COUNTRY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES, INC.

Located in the community of Muskogee, Okla., 53 miles southeast of Tulsa, Green Country Behavioral Health Services, Inc. is a nonprofit treatment organization that offers a range of outpatient programs for individuals struggling with substance abuse, a primary psychiatric disorder, or co-occurring difficulties. Along with specialized, age-specific outpatient programs, Green Country also offers inpatient crisis intervention and non-medical detoxification services for adults on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients meet with a clinician to undergo an initial bio-psychosocial assessment, which helps determine an appropriate treatment approach. If a client requires crisis intervention and/or detoxification, Green Country accepts both voluntary and involuntary admissions.

To stabilize the client, the facility’s approach may involve a combination of pharmacological intervention and therapeutic programming. The goal of crisis intervention is to quickly stabilize the client and transition the individual to one of the facility’s outpatient programs.

To promote lasting sobriety, clients recovering from substance abuse receive a range of rehabilitative programming. Clients participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Clients may also attend educational workshops on coping skills and relapse prevention techniques. In addition, the facility offers a specialized program track for individuals with co-occurring disorders, one of 102 facilities to offer such programs in Oklahoma. Ongoing medication management may be incorporated into these programs.

Programming to treat primary psychiatric disorders also consists of individual, group, and family counseling sessions. According to the facility’s website, psychiatric treatment is designed to “optimize the person’s potential for goal setting, skill development and increased quality of life.” Treatment programming also includes educational presentations on nutrition, physical fitness, smoking cessation, and other topics related to overall wellness.

Green Country also offers specialized treatment for children and families, as well as an outpatient program specifically-designed for adolescents and young adults (ages 16 to 24) called “Transitions.” This age-specific program utilizes services including counseling, case management, and rehabilitation. It is one of 61 facilities in Oklahoma with programming that caters specifically to young adults.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Green Country Behavioral Health Services, Inc. employs a multidisciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, licensed professional counselors, clinical social workers, a nursing staff, certified case managers, family support specialists, and behavioral health aids.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The two anonymous alumni polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing offered somewhat mixed reviews, providing four- and three-star ratings for overall treatment effectiveness, respectively. Offering a perfect five-star rating for the treatment staff’s level of experience and training, one alum wrote: “There are many counselors and they offer a wide range of services including doctor visits and medication.”

Although the other alum agreed that staff was well-trained and experienced, rating this metric with four out of five stars, they felt that the facility was understaffed. However, the alum praised the facility’s discharge planning, writing: “Continue to work with you after released." Both survey respondents offered perfect five-star ratings for the facility’s counseling options, the level of family participation, and the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders.
