ABOUT BEHAVIORAL CONNECTIONS – DEVLAC HALL

Devlac Hall, located in Bowling Green, Ohio, is a non-profit residential program that exclusively serves women who are struggling with addiction to tobacco, alcohol, and other substances. It is an affiliated program of the nonprofit Behavioral Connections of Wood County, Inc., a behavioral health care agency providing treatment for mental health and substance abuse disorders to county residents. Accredited by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, Devlac Hall’s women’s treatment program is tailored to each client’s needs, and residents typically stay on-site for 10 weeks.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the center’s website, the treatment consists of individual and group counseling, family education, educational activities, and therapeutic activities, which focus on chemical dependency and trauma issues. There are also women-specific workshops on relationships, abuse, self-care, and self-esteem. Loved ones are encouraged to participate in family education programs.

Patients’ length of stay is individualized, however the average stay is 10 weeks. After the 10 weeks, Residents can enroll in a six months Extended Care Program. Priority admission to the Extended Care Program is given to pregnant women.

During their stay, women learn about addiction, effects of use, the process of recovery, and how to cope with mental health disorders.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Devlac Hall is staffed by a team of psychiatrists, licensed social workers, and certified addiction specialists, as well nurses, dieticians, and GED instructors. A physician provides weekly care to the residents.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

While few details of Devlac Hall’s residential quarters are available, alumni rated the accommodations, meals, and cleanliness well. The residence is smoke-free, and family members are encouraged to visit after scheduled family education programs.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

The four alumni surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave very positive reviews. The reviewers wrote that they would recommend Behavioral Connections. Three alumni polled on additional metrics all gave four- and five-star ratings for the level of connectivity during treatment and the visitor policy, the holistic treatment offerings, the counseling options, and the staff's level of training and experience.

Criticism was sparse. One alum, Sam, said the only main issue with that the program is that it needed more funding “to further improve the facility." However, they also wrote: “Im very glad i chose to go and so grateful for Devlac Hall. As you can imagine, it’s difficult to adjust to any treatment at first, but its so worth it!!”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Three loved ones submitted surveys to Rehabs.com at the time of this writing and gave mixed reviews. Two loved ones gave the facility an overall score of five out of five stars. L.H., whose daughter participated in the program, told Rehabs.com: “This facility is wonderful. Very family and kid-oriented. They focus on the real problems of addiction as they know addiction is a symptom. They do not medicate, they teach coping skills and tools.”

On the other hand, loved one S.N. wrote to Rehabs.com that the program was “bleak” and “anything but warm, welcoming, or particularly helpful to guide to a better life.” They continued: “I realize many of the client have hit bottom to be there, but by their own admission their success rate is quite low. The website says 70% but one of the counselors indicated to me it was half that. She was anything but pleasant in her behavior with the clients.”

FINANCING

Devlac Hall accepts Medicaid and self-pay. Clients should keep in mind, though, that payments are are arranged on an individual basis. Some participants who are residents of Wood County may qualify for sliding scale fees.
