ABOUT YOUTHWORKS - FARGO

Serving North Dakota and Minnesota since 1979, Youthworks specializes in working with teens, young adults, and parents under the age of 22. One of 14 (23.3%) private, nonprofit facilities in North Dakota, Youthworks has programs for runaway youth, homeless and street youth, youth failing in or suspended from school, youth with anger issues, and youth requiring emergency supplies and attention. Its specially-tailored adolescent programming makes it one of the only 20 facilities in the state to have this focus.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Youthworks runs more than a dozen different programs in its effort to help children, teens, and young adults from various backgrounds and problems. In North Dakota in 2016, 5.43% of adolescents age 12 to 17 exhibited general substance use disorder.

For youth involved in the juvenile court system, a diversion program helps prevent further offenses by providing early intervention. Youth suspended from school can take part in the nonprofit’s Out-of-School program, which consists of community service projects, homework assistance, counseling, and referrals. In attending, they’ll not only keep out of further trouble, but also learn the invaluable trait of service. For their children to be accepted, parents must schedule an appointment and be present during intake.

For those between the ages of 18 and 21 without safe and permanent housing, Youthworks offers transitional housing and support services for up to 21 months. While there is a program fee for these furnished apartments, youth may be eligible for financial assistance. Similarly modeled in structure, Parenting Pathways provides short-term housing for young parents and pregnant mothers, ages 18 through 21, which is only offered by 7 (11.7%) North Dakota facilities.

Youthworks in Fargo also opens its doors for “drop-in hours,” during which time youth may access much needed food, clothing, and hygiene products. Staff are also available in these hours to discuss services available. Additional programs include outreach efforts targeting runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth, emergency shelters and reunification services, and intensive case management for young victims of human trafficking.

Family counseling is also available, typically occurring over eight sessions.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Youthworks in Fargo boasts a large team of licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), human trafficking specialists, teachers, and program coordinators.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has yet to receive any reviews from this facility’s alumni.

On Facebook, though, where Youthworks received an excellent average rating of 4.2 stars out of five based on 24 reports to date, former client Alyssa felt that "Amazing things are accomplished through the YouthWorks program.”[1] User J.M. added the positive feedback, "Wonderful people who care about homeless and runaway youth."

At the time of this writing on Google, the facility had one five-star rating, and one three-star rating, with little other written commentary.[2]

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The sole Rehabs.com survey respondent to date, a loved one, gave four- and five-star ratings for this facility’s family inclusion, treatment effectiveness, and counseling options, amongst other categories. Though they felt it to be somewhat disorganized here, making it “hard to get in contact with family member(s),” this reviewer still appreciated all the individual attention given to their loved one.

FINANCING

Per the nonprofit’s webpage, “most of the services are free and when there is a charge it is based on a family’s ability to pay.” Support comes from Federal, state, and city resources, as well as contributions and fundraising efforts. The fee for family counseling is $50/hour, though the site notes "Families are never denied services if they are unable to make financial contributions."

[1]https://www.facebook.com/pg/youthworksND/reviews/
[2] https://goo.gl/GHfjBN
