Editorial Review

ABOUT DAYMARK RECOVERY SERVICES, INC. - SURRY CENTER

Based in North Carolina, Daymark Recovery Services offers a full continuum of treatment for individuals struggling with mental health disorders, chemical dependency, and co-occurring disorders. Located in Surry, which is about 10 miles outside of the city of Mount Airy, the Surry Center provides outpatient treatment programs for adults, as well as psychiatric services and medication management for children and adults, intensive in-home services for children, urgent care, and mobile crisis management services.

The Surrey Center is one of 23 facilities operated by Daymark Recovery Services, with other centers located in Winston-Salem and Asheboro.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Upon admission, clients first undergo a psychosocial assessment to help determine an appropriate level of care. In addition to specialized mental health outpatient treatment for both adults and children, the Surry Center runs an intensive outpatient program (IOP), a modality offered by 41 percent of all outpatient treatment facilities in the state. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and provides walk-in assessments and crisis interventions.

The IOP involves a minimum of nine hours of weekly programming, or the equivalent of three sessions per week. At the Surry Center, this program is available only for adults struggling with substance use disorder. Treatment consists of individual and group counseling, life skills education, and relapse prevention training. Referrals are made for aftercare services and relevant community programs.

The Surrey Center utilizes several evidence-based practices, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and Seeking Safety. Treatment also follows the Matrix Model, which a method found in a little less than half (48 percent) of all facilities in North Carolina.

In addition, the Surry Center provides intensive in-home services for children. Specialized to treat either substance abuse or mental health disorders, the in-home programs aim to provide first responder interventions to diffuse crises, foster use of community services and resources, and prevent the need for out-of-home treatment. The service is available 24/7.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The Surry Center employs a team of psychiatrists, substance abuse and mental health counselors, child psychologists, and case managers.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

While Rehabs.com has not yet received any feedback from Surry Center's alumni, the facility earned an average rating of 2.9 out of five stars based on seven Google reviews[1]. Of the four former clients who left commentary, three provided negative feedback, one provided positive feedback, and one left a mixed review.

The two negative reviewers complained about slow service and unqualified staff members, and the mixed reviewer noted that while the facility and its staff seemed to genuinely care about their clients, the treatment offerings were very limited. "Nice people who try their best to help the community with extremely limited resources," Andrea explained. "I wish they had more psychiatrists in person, instead of via video conference, which I am not comfortable with at all."

Randy, the positive reviewer, simply wrote: "Awesome and nice team."

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

The three loved ones surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, all anonymous females over the age of 60, gave the Surry facility mixed reviews. Two of the three awarded the facility four or five out of five stars for its cleanliness, its counseling options, its administrative and discharge procedures, and its treatment of co-occurring disorders, as well as its staff's level of training and experience. "Has great counseling, offer many payment /insurance options, good counselors, varied appointment hours," one of the two respondents wrote.

The third reviewer, on the other hand, gave the Surry Center just one or two out of five stars for all the metrics they evaluated, including family participation, cleanliness, counseling options, and affordability. "Nothing would help its a bad facility," the wrote.

FINANCING

Daymark Recovery Services takes some private insurance, as well as Medicaid and Medicare, the latter of which is accepted by 44 percent of treatment facilities in North Carolina. Fees are also offered on a sliding scale to clients who qualify.

[1] GoogleReviews
