<p><strong>ABOUT BROUGHTON HOSPITAL</strong></p> <p>Broughton Hospital, one of the 14 North Carolina’s Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF), provides a full range of psychiatric treatment services for the state’s 37 western-most counties, approximately 35 percent of the total population. Located in the community of Morganton, N.C., <strong>the 382-bed hospital offers mental health treatment services</strong> for adolescents, adults, older adults, and the deaf.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to the center’s website, to determine the appropriate level of care and set individual goals, an interdisciplinary treatment team takes patients through <strong>bio-psychosocial assessments and services</strong>. Depending on a patient’s needs, comprehensive treatment may consist of <strong>individual, group, behavioral, and social therapy</strong>. </p> <p>To help stabilize the patient, Broughton Hospital may also utilize <strong>pharmacological intervention</strong> and ongoing medication management. Treatment programming may also feature recreational, creative arts, and <a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/prepare-u-the-mental-emotional-and-behavioral-health-curriculum-for-students/," target="_blank">occupational therapies</a> as well.</p> <p>In addition, the hospital provides <strong>psychosocial interventions (PSIs)</strong> designed to help clients cultivate the skills necessary to transition back into their respective communities. Accordingly, the hospital runs treatment malls affording clients opportunities for a range of <strong>skill-building activities</strong>.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>According to the facility’s website, the psychiatric facility employs more than 1,300 health care professionals. To date, the two individuals polled on the matter gave polarized opinions concerning the staff's level of experience and training. The one alum polled by Rehabs.com gave staff's level of experience just one out of five stars, but a loved one gave this category a perfect five-star rating. </p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>The center’s website notes that the 466,000 square foot, state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital has <strong>capacity for 382 beds</strong>. The sole alum to provide feedback to Rehabs.com to date gave accommodations and cleanliness each just one out of five stars. A surveyed loved one, on the other hand, gave accommodations four stars and cleanliness five stars. </p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>The one alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided negative reviews. The alum, A.C.E., gave the center one out of five stars for most of the categories evaluated, including accommodations, meals & nutrition, staff's level of experience, holistic offerings, and its affordability. In response to whether or not he would recommend the center, A.C.E selected "strongly disagree," and when asked about the center’s strengths, he wrote “none.”</p> <p>However, A.C.E. did give Broughton Hospital three stars for treatment effectiveness.</p> <p>On Google reviews, Broughton Hospital has an above-average rating of <strong>3.7 out of five stars based on 21 reviews</strong> to date.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> “The staff is great they are very well trained,” one representative reviewer wrote. Another alum who provided a positive review noted the center was like her second home, and that she loved the hospital.</p> <p>Contrastingly, another reviewer, referred to the hospital as “terrible” and warned others, “Unless you plan to give your loved one a death sentence..don’t ever bring he/she there.”</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>To date, Rehabs.com has received mixed feedback from two loved ones. In addition to giving the hospital five stars for its treatment affordability and its level of cleanliness, an anonymous reviewer applauded the “well organized” staff. “They truly care about the individual-they listened and created an individualized treatment program,” the individual wrote.</p> <p>In contrast, another anonymous loved one noted a lack of family involvement, and reported that they would not recommend the hospital to others.</p> <p><strong>FINANCING</strong></p> <p>Broughton Hospital accepts <strong>private insurance and state-funded insurance plans</strong>.
