ABOUT BRYNN MARR HOSPITAL IN JACKSONVILLE, N.C.

Brynn Marr Hospital of Jacksonville, N.C. offers age-specific inpatient treatment for children, teens, and adults struggling with substance abuse (SUD) and co-occurring mental health disorders. Founded in 1983, the hospital is TRICARE® certified and one of only 63 (13.3 percent of) facilities in the state of North Carolina that is accredited by the Joint Commission. In addition to these services, the hospital runs a separate residential treatment for teenage girls aged 12 to 17.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment programming at Brynn Marr Hospital follows a holistic philosophy. Clients may contact the facility 24/7 to schedule a free assessment.

One of just 123 (26.1 percent of) programs in the state specifically tailored to youth, the Child/Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Services program helps boy and girls find relief and solutions to severe emotional and mental health problems, substance abuse issues, and developmental disabilities. In the Adult Inpatient Psychiatric & Addiction Services program, adults struggling with severe depression, suicidal and/or homicidal thoughts, or a severe mental illness, per the center’s website, attend an average of six psycho-educational and therapy groups a day.

The hospital also runs a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), also called the Passages Program, for teenage girls facing PTSD, depression, self-harm behaviors, and SUD and other addictive behaviors. This incentive-based behavioral development program provides girls with a certified school curriculum five days a week and challenging team-based recreational activities.

Depending on their needs, Brynn Marr patients may receive medication management, individual and group therapy, medication and nutritional education, and on-site A.A. and N.A. meetings. Treatment for youth consists of programming on family dynamics, life skills and social skills training, and leisure education. Art therapy, music therapy, and yoga are also available.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

The treatment team at Brynn Marr Hospital includes a physician, psychiatrists, registered nurses, recreational therapists, care coordinators, and mental health professionals.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Brynn Marr Hospital houses its child, adolescent, and adult programs in separate areas. Photos published on the facility’s website show shared rooms, classrooms, an outdoor recreation area, indoor basketball court, game room, and therapeutic quiet room. There’s also an on-site gym and outdoor courtyards with playground equipment and picnic tables. Meals are served in the dining room with a salad bar and each unit has distinct visitation hours.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

In the sole Rehabs.com survey to date, former client Frank gave just one out of five stars in indicating how effective treatment was for him as well as one star for the center’s accommodations and meals. Despite these low ratings, alum Frank felt that Brynn Marr was worth the cost, enough to recommend it to others. “Outstanding and caring staff and facilities,” he commented.

On Google, where 77 individuals collectively awarded Brynn Marr Hospital an average rating of 2.0 out of five stars, feedback was overall negative. While some found the hospital helpful and effective in digging into the core of their issues, parents and alumni alike complained of a lack of communication and forced medication tactics.[1]

“This place is completely terrible,” wrote J.K. in one such review. “The lack of communication was astounding. They never once contacted me after my 9 year old daughter that has never had any medication or interactions with anything like this all week I would call every day and check with the nursing staff." “I went here, I stayed for 2 weeks,” added M.A. in another one-star review. “All we did was colour all day or watch movies. I only saw the doctor for 5 mintues and the staff half of them don't care. Please don't send you're children here.”

FINANCING

Brynn Marr accepts most major insurance and managed care plans - making it one of just 294 (62.3 percent of) facilities in the state of North Carolina to do so - as well TRICARE®, Medicare, and Medicaid for individuals under 21 years of age.

For more information regarding treatment costs, prospective clients are encouraged to contact the facility directly.

[1] https://www.google.com/search?q=Brynn+MARR+Hospital+in+Jacksonville%2C+NC&rlz=1C1RUCY_enUS690US690&oq=Brynn+MARR+Hospital+in+Jacksonville%2C+NC&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#lrd=0x89a91aa6dcca02d1:0x3974c73643f6c25b,1,,,
