<p><strong>ABOUT CHERRY HOSPITAL</strong></p> <p>Based in Goldsboro, N.C., Cherry Hospital is one of 14 treatment facilities run by North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services. Cherry Hospital is one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NC16.pdf" target="_blank">28 (5.7 percent) treatment centers in the state</a> that provides <strong>inpatient psychiatric care</strong> for substance abuse disorders, as well as being amongst the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NC16.pdf" target="_blank">47.6 percent</a> of North Carolina treatment centers that provide care to individuals with <strong><a href="http://www.recovery.org/topics/dual-diagnosis-recovery/" target="_blank">co-occurring mental health disorders</a>.</strong> </p> <p>Clients may be admitted on a voluntary or involuntary basis.</p> <p><strong>TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT</strong></p> <p>According to the hospital’s website, the facility provides <strong>both short- and long-term programs for adults,</strong> along with being one of the only <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NC16.pdf" target="_blank">103 (21.2 percent)</a> facilities in the state with specifically-tailored programming for <strong>seniors,</strong> and one of the <a href="https://wwwdasis.samhsa.gov/webt/state_data/NC16.pdf" target="_blank">132 (27 percent)</a> facilities in the state with programming for <strong><a href="https://www.recovery.org/pro/articles/is-my-child-just-experimenting/" target="_blank">adolescents.</a></strong> In North Carolina as of 2016, <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/NSDUHsaePercents2016/NSDUHsaePercents2016.pdf" target="_blank">3.8 percent of adolescents ages 12 to 17</a> needed but did not receive specialty treatment at a facility for substance use in that year.</p> <p>At Cherry Hospital, all clients receive diagnostic care as part of their treatment. The hospital’s substance abuse programming includes a variety of treatment modalities, including <strong>individual and group counseling,</strong> as well as behavioral, milieu, occupational, creative arts, and recreational therapies.</p> <p><strong>STAFF CREDENTIALS</strong></p> <p>The center’s treatment team includes physicians, psychologists, clinical social workers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and psychiatry residents. The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com to date awarded <strong>staff level of experience and training five out of five stars.</strong> The two loved ones polled to date gave more mixed feedback, with a four-star and a two-star rating in this category.</p> <p><strong>ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES</strong></p> <p>According to a <a href="https://www.ncdhhs.gov/news/press-releases/governor-mccrory-celebrates-grand-opening-new-cherry-hospital" target="_blank">2016 press release,</a> Cherry Hospital moved to a new, state-of-the-art facility, increasing capacity from 197 beds to <strong>313 beds</strong>. This level of accommodation is quite high, given that the median number of individuals at an inpatient hospital treatment facility is <a href="https://www.samhsa.gov/data/sites/default/files/2016_NSSATS.pdf" target="_blank">13 clients, as of 2016.</a> The three-story building, which spans 410,000 feet, has a modern, clinical appearance. The hospital includes an <strong>on-site fitness center</strong>, and the campus is surrounded by outdoor seating areas. Visiting hours are held daily.</p> <p><strong>WHAT ALUMNI SAY</strong></p> <p>When asked how likely they would be to recommend the facility to others, the sole <strong>alum polled by Rehabs.com to date provided a rating of five out of five stars.</strong> This anonymous individual, whose only written comment was, "It was decent," still gave above-average ratings for all aspects of the facility and treatment. Four stars went to holistic offerings, meals &amp; nutrition, and whether or not the program was worth the cost. Five stars were given to the level of family participation, the facility's admissions &amp; discharge procedures, the effectiveness of treatment for co-occurring disorders, and the facility's cleanliness.</p> <p>Feedback for this facility on secondary sites is above-average as well. At the time of this writing, 13 users on Google produced an average rating of <strong>3.8 out of five stars.</strong><small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small> The food was a reoccurring criticism, but otherwise commentary was fairly neutral. V.R., a representative reviewer, provided a four-star rating, highlighting the “very nice and welcoming experience.” However, V.R. also stated that the program was “a tad boring.”</p> <p>The hospital’s unofficial Facebook page received an average rating of 3.4 out of five stars, based on feedback from 16 reviewers who appear to be a mix of alumni, loved ones, and employees.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-2"><sup>[2]</sup></a></small> A few dissatisfied individuals commented upon the rude customer service and the lack of security.</p> <p><strong>WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY</strong></p> <p>The two family members and friends polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing <strong>expressed dissatisfaction with the care their loved ones received.</strong> The sister of a former client described Cherry Hospital as “the worst rehab ever,” citing “horrible” food, unclean conditions, a lack of family engagement, and questionable medication management. “They over medicated my sister. The only think they had going for them was the cheap price,” this loved one wrote, giving only one out of five stars to holistic offerings, cleanliness, effectiveness in treating co-occurring disorders, and whether or not this center was worth recommending.</p> <p>The other loved one also cited the food as a weakness of the facility, and gave two stars to the center's connectivity policy, but gave slightly higher, three-star ratings to admissions &amp; discharge procedures, treatment of co-occurring disorders, and holistic offerings. </p> <p>C.T., the one Google reviewer who identified herself as a family member, shared a drastically different experience. “The staff was very nice to me and my daughter. She loved being there and wouldn't trade them for nothing,” she wrote in her five-star review.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-1"><sup>[1]</sup></a></small></p> <p><strong>WHAT STAFF SAY</strong></p> <p>At the time of this writing, Rehabs.com had yet to receive reviews from this facility’s staff, and employee <strong>reviews submitted to Glassdoor and Indeed are mixed</strong>. The nine reviewers on Glassdoor provided an average rating of 3.4 stars, with some individuals praising their coworkers, and some logging complaints related to management.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-3"><sup>[3]</sup></a></small></p> <p>The <strong>42 reviewers on Indeed provided a higher average rating of 3.8 stars</strong>.<small class="footnote"><a target="_blank" href="#footnote-4"><sup>[4]</sup></a></small> Multiple users noted that they enjoyed working with clients and shared positive views of client care. “I loved working at Cherry Hospital &amp; I loved the patients and my coworkers even more.
