Editorial Review

ABOUT CREDO COMMUNITY CENTER FOR THE TREATMENT OF ADDICTIONS, INC.

For more than 40 years, Credo Community Center has delivered addiction treatment services for individuals and families in northwestern New York. It's one of a small number, just 20.9 percent, of facilities across New York that offer long-term residential treatment. Today, the established facility provides a safe and structured family-like environment through its various programs for men, women, and adolescents in the early stages of recovery. Detox services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

According to the facility's website, the Credo Men's Community Residences is designed to assist men ages 16 and older in making healthy decisions and improving their self-awareness. Programming introduces men to sober living and relapse prevention skills, and offers educational and vocational training as well as recreational opportunities. The length of treatment varies from six to 12 months.

Featuring four distinct levels of treatment, the Women's Residence serves up to 15 women by helping women improve in relevant areas of life such as assertiveness, empowerment, family issues, and more. In this long-term program, women partake in individual, peer, and group counseling sessions as well as specialized classes on parenting, budgeting, and nutrition. As in the men's program, women benefit from educational, vocational, and volunteer opportunities. Treatment is suitable for pregnant women and those with preschool aged children.

Through farming and gardening, the Residential Rehabilitation Services for Youth program, also known as The Farm, teaches young men between the ages of 16 and 20 integral values and skills of self-discipline, commitment, and patience. With an average length of stay of six to eight months, young men discover the meaning of healthy recreation, community service, and leadership as they prepare for their life beyond substance abuse. On-site SC testing and services (an alternative to the GED) also take place at The Farm.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Under the direction of an executive director who is a licensed master social worker (LMSW), the facility works with family therapists and state-licensed credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselors (CASACs), the center's website notes. In addition, The Farm boasts an intimate staff-to-client ratio of five to one.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

According to the center's website, The Farm sits on 115 acres of scenic farmland based about 10 miles north of Watertown. The men's residences are based out of multi-story homes in a suburban neighborhood.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Rehabs.com has not yet received any reviews from this facility's former clients. Twenty-two alumni who reviewed Credo on Google at the time of this writing provided an average score of 3.7 out of five stars.[1]

A majority of the positive reviewers recommended the center for its staff and treatment effectiveness.
